Bryston 6B ST or SST?
« on: 22 Jun 2005, 03:32 am »
I just bought a 6B ST and I'm still in the getting it settled into my system phase.  I got it at my local dealer from a trade in a customer did.  My dealer also has a demo 6B SST he has that he is willing to give me a decent deal on.  I was wondering if I'm missing all that much from not having the SST.  The price premium to go to an SST is $1000.  Any input from James or others would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I prefer the idrange of the St but the sst is better at the frequency extremes. Demo carefully before upgrading

Interesting. I knew the 14bst/sst were the same but not the 6b as well. Thanks!

Thanks for the replies.  But I did find out that the small change in the power supply of the 6B SST is enough to bump the rated output of the amp to 300 WPC; where as my ST is only rated to 250 WPC.  To me theres more than a slight change in the power supply to bump those numbers up like that.

Hi,

My 4bst puts out 300w the same as the 4bsst - I think they just altered the way they report the figures.

I don't know that I necessarily agree that the first generation 14BST amps are the same as the newer SST ones as the first amps were rated as having 500 w/ch and the SST that I have is rated @ 600 W/ch. Thats a 20% increase and while there may or may not be any audible differences between the 2 versions I would prefer to own the most current one...

The actual power is the same - the ST is just more conservatively specced. They are the same accoring to James Tanner, Bryston VP.
