Just ordered my new RM30s with the new SECRET SR-71 upgrade

Wish I could tell you more about the upgrade, but this is the first one "ever" and we haven't decided to make it available to everyone.  Plus I need clearance from the CIA and NSC

But man am I EXCITED :hyper: :hyper::hyper: :hyper:

Some of you may bave noticed the "cheaper" RM/x thread.

If this works like expected, with another two tweaks, the RM30 might begin to approach a "mini" RM/x status. (performance wise)

So when I get it, and get it broken in, I'll dial everyone into how well it works.

And if it works that way I think it will, the SR71 tweak will go on the VMPS menu.

SR71? AKA Blackbird... I take it these will only come in black and have prefab foam wings around the mid panels

Well they will "fly" high and fast and be almost invisible

The will also "gather and present" sonic information with much better efficiency than most others.

The SR stands for "Sonic Reproduction"

I knew SR-71 was an awesome amp, but I did NOT know how well it would drive VMPS  :thumb:

I might add that the tweak has "Something" to do with the "SOUND BARRIER"!!!!! :o

Actually, the cabinet is corrugated and the seams aren't perfect, i.e, they have gaps.  But only at room termperature.  Once you fire them up, they heat up considerably due to the high velocity of sound reproduction and the panels expand due to the temperature.  But until that time, they leak.

The SR71 remains an impressive aircraft, but it was first flown 40 years ago and retired 15 years ago... couldn't you find something more recent to compare against? :)

Anyway... are the "SR71" upgrades something that can be retrofitted to exising RM30's?

Hey Brian,

Well the "designation" is mine, and B, has not sanctioned it.

However while the SR71 "is" ancient, its performance is still cutting edge.  When something works, it works.

I beleive the upgrade can be done in the field, by those "skilled in the art".

A few times a week I take a walk in Palos Verdes Estates and many times encounter this quite old gentleman walking e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y.... S--L--O--W.

As it turns out, I beleive my walking companion said that this fellow was the test pilot for the SR71, as well as many other aviation biggies.

I guess he worked for Lockheed, Gruman, Boeing and the USAF.

No doubt, it did what it was designed to do (fly at Mach 3+ at very high altitudes) very, very well and showcases some incredible technology.  (Of course, it had some "issues" too, as it usually had to go into a dive to get through transonic, was touchy to fly in certain conditions, and it drank fuel like it was going out of style... but it was very happy at Mach 3!)

Ummmm.... are we talking chewing gum and bailing wire skills, or soldering iron and electron beam welding skills? :)

There were multiple SR-71 test pilots, but first flight was performed by Bob Gilliland, who was also the first to fly virtually every production SR-71 as it entered operation.  I wonder if it was him... probably about the right age...

Hi Joe,

My pair are still at the "Skunkworks" in El Sobrante.  At this time only Big B, knows how well the upgrade worked.

I should get them next week, and they are going have to go some to beat the 626R system I have tweaked so carefully.  Right now the "imaging" on this system is beyond description.

I have no doubt that the RM30/Quad LARGER system will be "as", if not "more" stunning.

I have several preconcieved original ideas about how to place the 30's and the front subs that might also be very cool (if it works).

See the LARGERS act as "stands" for the 626R's, but they will have to flank the RM30s, which means there is a 10" woofer to contend with.  I have a very daring idea about how to do this and I only hope it works.
