Yorgos Lanthimos was probably one of the few people outside of South Korea to watch "Save the Green Planet". I had never heard of the film before Yorgos' latest film "Bugonia" was released. I have read that "Bugonia" is a faithful remake of the original film although I haven't seen it yet. "Bugonia" is Lanthimos's most expensive film to date and should look amazing along with stellar performances by Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons.

"Save the Green Planet" is a budget black comedy horror film. Byeong-gu believes that extraterrestrials from "Andromeda PK 45" are preparing to invade Earth and regards himself as his planet's savior. With the help of Su-ni, his childlike circus performer girlfriend, he kidnaps Kang Man-shik, a pharmaceutical executive he believes to be an alien commander who can contact the Andromedan prince during a lunar eclipse due to occur soon.

Byeong-gu tortures the executive believing he can stop the Andromedia invasion while the executive tries and fails to convince his captors that he is human and they are nuts.

In what order to watch the two films? Obviously I watched the original South Korean version first, but since "Bugonia" is a faithful remake you will know the ending. A Yorgos Lanthimos film is an event and an all-you-can-eat feast for the eyes so knowing the ending won't lessen my enjoyment.

"Save the Green Planet" is a pretty good "B" movie. Language: South Korean with English subtitles. Check your favorite streaming service.
