newbie wants new receiver opinions wanted

Hi all,
This is my first post so be gentle.

I have arrived here because I have been looking into the JVC F10, and the good folks at AVSFORUM refer people who are looking at this receiver to this fine forum.

Anyway, I have been looking at the Panny XR50 and the JVC F10 for a while now, and I think I am leaning toward the JVC.

I will be using this primarily for a Home Theater set up with a DLP projector. So far I have bought some speakers, 1 JBL EC25 Center channel, 2 AR Bookshelf loudspeakers, and I plan to use two existing speakers I have had for a while. Carlton KEF speakers. Kind of old, but I thought I would try them and see how the whole setup sounds before I buy any more new speakers.

So mainly I plan on using this for movies and such.

I am concerned about reliability. I have had a Sony receiver in the past give me nothing but blown channels and problems and I want to get something that is tried and true.

One thing that has me waiting on getting the JVC right now is the recent announcment of the new line of JVC receivers. Specifically the new RX-D201S/202B.
Does anyone know or have any opinion on whether it is better to wait a month or two to get the new RX-D201S/202B or just get the F10, or if there is some other path I should go down? Can someone help me find my mommy?

Thanks in advance.

Stick with the same supplier for your DLP (DMD) chip

In other words get the Panny.
I have the 25 and love it with my old and measly two speakers.  Its not even modded.

Thanks, I was beginning to wonder if anyone would respond.

I have started leaning even moreso toward the Panny SA-XR50 only problem is finding someone who is an authorized dealer who has it in stock! Seems like everyone is out of stock.

Anybody know of a good reliable place online to order it?
I love Crutchfield, but they don't carry it.

Welcome to AC, and welcome to the world of researching digital amplification!

Could you help us understand what you use for a source, and if it is connected with a digital cable, or regular RCA's?  That might dictate what receiver will sound better.

Good luck in the hunt,

Thank you!

I will definately be going from either a digital port of a dvd player or a SPDIF from a PC. The main purpose is Movies.

I originally started looking into this when I realized that my HTPC's DVD player software did not support 5.1 decoding, so I needed something that would do that for the PC. After looking into it I started to get excited about building a really nice surround sound setup for my projector.

So, I think I will be primarily using digital connections.

Hey el-cheapo,

Digital connections = The Panny's.  The JVC's magic is in the discrete analog connections, definitely not the digital.

Whether the new JVC's down the line are any better thru digital connections remains to be seen and heard.

We'll all be on the look out for your mommy, too

I got mine from J&R (authorized dealer) for a lower phone price than was listed at their site.

Panasonic SA-XR-70 is about $359 new on the web.  Very nice right out of the box for HT.  Needs mods to be really good for 2-chnl.

i have an xr-10 but the one thing that bugs me is ....

the lack of useful crossover points (x-over points start from 100Hz), .. not a problem at the present because i'm using tiny satellite speakers for HT, .. but  for larger speakers, ... i'm not so sure about integration  in a home theater scenario, ..

not sure about the newer pannys, .. maybe someone here can elaborate

... that said, it is a good sounding reciever

Well I had decided for the sa-rx50 and I decided to buy it at J&R, only problem is that it has been out of stock since before I decided!

Don't know why, but it seems like these are out of stock everywhere!

I've got one I bought from etronics I'd sell.  I decided I liked the F10 better with my 4 ohm speakers.  Let me know if you'd consider one that has very little use for a slight discount. It is in the orig package with everything included totally mint condition.

No thanks.
I have decided to wait for the new JVC RX-201 receivers which are due out this month.
