Hi, I am putting up for sale 2 of my 1970's vintage TT's.
I have a fully restored Thorens TD-145 TT for sale. I built a new wood plinth out of Cocobolo wood with a high gloss shellac finish. It has a beautiful red and black tone to it. Cocobolo wood is one of the most dense woods in the world and is very expensive now. I lined the entire inside and bottom plate with a material similar to GT mat. The metal top plate rests on wood supports that I lined with Aquarium Silicone Cement for more vibration isolation. I replaced the flimsy low density fiberboard bottom plate with Baltic Birch plywood. I placed sorbothane feet on the bottom that can be adjusted. The TT holds its speed and it just got a good going through by my EE friend who has been working on Thorens TT's and electronics for 50 years. It runs like new and it sounds better than new with the mods that gave it more vibration isolation. I also dampened the suspension springs which were too springy. It can easily be undone. I do have the Stylus adjustment gauge. We were using a Nagaoka MP-200 with it and it is a good match. The motor bearing has no play in it even after years of use.
Please note that the TD-145 is a semi auto TT. This is what separates it from the TD-160 which is fully manual.
Price is $750 firm. No low ball offers. I will eventually post pictures or I can text you pictures. This is a fair price as these and the TD-160 are going for over $1K.
The second TT is a 1970's Pioneer PL55x that was fully restored. It works great and would be a great starter TT for some one. I bought it for my son and he used it with a Nagaoka MP-150 cartridge and it sounded great. It is semi auto and it works well. It is a heavy TT and built like a tank. I do have the stylus adjustment gauge for it.
The Pioneer has a beautiful vintage warmer tone. It would pair well with a Sumiko Olympia or Nagaoka MP-150 and 200. The MP-100 may be too warm and rolled for this TT. Certainly do not use a 2M Red. We tried one when I first bought the table and the Red is just an awful cartridge, too bright and sibilant. Too much grain. A friend loaned me the cartridge to try and see if I wanted to buy it. No thank you.
Price is $300 firm.
Smoke and Cat free environment.
These prices are in addition to shipping and insurance costs. I will eat the paypal fee's or we can do Venmo. I will be happy to ship and know how to pack a TT.
The reason I am selling these TT's is because I upgraded to a Pro-Ject Classic Evo and my son is going to buy a Pro-ject X1b.
Thanks for looking,
Larry
