Hey Greg,

I notice on the cover plate on the back of the New Vittora it is labeled "Vittora V4."

For us curious Volti history buffs, could you delineate what changes occurred with the V2 and V3 of the original Vittora? Or does this suggest that the New Vittora went through three development stages and the current production version is V4?

Thanks,

Dan

On the New Vittora, I restarted the serial number numbering at 001, instead of continuing the numbering from the original Vittora.  But for the crossover development, I decided to do a continuation.  So the New Vittora has the fourth version of the crossover since the inception of the original Vittora back in 2010.  It's only confusing if you think about it.  :)

V1 to V2 happened early on with a tweeter change.  V2 to V3 was the switch from the design done by an engineer to my own design.  That occured right around the first Chicago AXPONA.  Just two weeks before the show I hunkered down and spent day and night til the show coming up with my own version of the crossover - V3.  Gary Dews and I sat and listened to V2 and V3 over and over again in the show room on Thursday setup day.  In the end, we both agreed the V3 was much more enjoyable to listen to music with.  That's the version that I used all the way to the end of production on the original Vittora.

Greg

When I look at that picture now, I realize how much my crossover design and construction work has improved over the years.  All those screw connections and soldering to binding posts - the iron-core inductors - AND OH MY - Sand-cast resistors!  Ugggh

Welcome Greg!

Its great to have you on this forum along with one of my other favorite music purveyors, Dan at Modwright.  A quick story for those on the forum about Greg and his speakers.  Spoiler Alert - I own a pair of his Razz speakers.

In the spring of 2024 after researching, listening and narrowing down what was to be my next set of speakers I contacted Greg and asked if I could drop in his TN shop for a visit and to pick up my speakers vs having him ship.   He was a good days drive from my home and I was planning to stay overnight in Crossville, TN.  I arrived and spent time with Greg and one of his team in the shop seeing the process of how a Razz speaker was crafted. I was amazed at the process and care put into every step of the build.  We then wandered across the county road for some good Mexican food/beverage followed by an extended listening session back at the ranch with "my new speakers" playing with his system - yes the Cary amp mentioned above.  I ended up spending the evening on a nice camp cot in Greg's workshop so I can truly say that I was close to the build and details surrounding the speakers.  Next morning we were up, had an espresso and packed the speakers for their ride home.  Greg is a really good man and a true craftsman.  It was a fantastic experience to have spent time with him and have this story I just wrote above about "my" Volti Razz speakers.  BTW I have them paired with a First Watt F8 amp and the Modwright LS 100 with NOS tubes.  They really shine!

Thank you for sharing your experience.

We love to share the fun we have building and listening to these great speakers and we welcome potential new customers to visit us here at Volti Audio by appointment please.

I ordered a pair of Luceras from Greg and received them yesterday. These are a great fit for my room and budget.
They are are true work of audio and cabinetry art! These are replacing my Klipsch Chorus IIs.
They go much deeper than the Ks, with nice full midrange that sounds so real, you'd swear the band is in the room. Great high end too. Nothing is lacking here!
Greg is easy to work with and wants you to be happy with your decision.
The build quality is off the charts. Just knowing there is no junky MDF cabinetry is a big draw for me.
Keep up the good work Greg, and much continued success!

At the recent Axpona show in Chicago, I had the good fortune to have several sessions in the Volti room with the New Vittora. Even after reading the glowing reports from other shows and the information regarding the improvements made, not to mention the photos of the well crafted new look - I still wasn't fully prepared for the sound in the room. Wow.

In a couple of his recent newsletters, Greg shares his thoughts on hearing other systems at recent shows. With those comments in mind, I felt the need for an occasional return to the Volti room to "cleanse my ears." Once you get dialed in to what the Vittora does, and does so well, compared to other approaches, especially those with six and seven figure price tags, so much of it seems like an unfortunate waste of time and effort. If the opportunity presents itself, do yourself the favor of some time with the New Vittora. At Axpona, as much fun as it was to listen, it was almost as much fun watching the reaction of the others in the room.

Cool.  A long way to go yet.  Stay tuned, it could be pretty interesting.

ChatGPT image is pretty close to what I'm thinking.  12" woofer for scale

So it looks like it could be something like 38” tall, 16” wide ballpark… maybe 60 lbs… using something like a
4-6” wide band to handle the mids and top end??

The AI image is not exact.  The first prototype cabinets will be 15" wide, 28" tall and 18" deep.  sensitivity should end up at 95 or 96.  Bass extension is mid to high 30's.  Mid/highs are from a coax unit with a tweeter horn, so it's a three-way speaker.  1" MDF cabinet with textured paint finish.  No grills.  Will come with flat base on the bottom or with angled risers.

We shouldn't get too excited just yet, there's a long way to go.   This design may not work at all.  It's happened before!   :?

It's great to hear that a "smaller" Volti speaker with the Volti sound could become an option in the future and the coax path seems like a really interesting direction.

At one point I owned a Power Sound Audio subwoofer that had a black textured finish...It looked great and was was almost scuff/blemish proof!

If the speaker pans out...I would strongly suggest a grill "option" of some kind.  Without grills, there will be a lot of people with kids and dogs that will say no as will many who have their speakers in a main living area and want the grills for looks.

One question...if the speaker will ultimately be made from/by some some type of a CNC cut panel, could there also be a version of the speaker that would be taller rather than deeper...again, my sense is that the aesthetics of a "short" floorstander makes them harder to place in a living area and the squat height would get them knocked off of some people's list.

Hi Greg...Eli Whitney here.  I was going to recommend that you design a small room, stand mount for your next speaker.  Looks like that won't be happening any time soon. :)

I was hoping for that as well. I was thinking of something similar to the Klipsch OJAS kO-R1, but priced about 50% less, retaining the Volti sound and build quality. I'm still curious to see how this develops, assuming it actually does.

Thanks for your thoughts Ron.  For those who want grills or taller speakers, I would recommend the Razz.
