My local FedEx wants packages with a declared value delivered to the store unsealed. They "inspect" and tape shut. I am not sure if being "inspected" would help with any claim. They only take a cursory glance.

There is NO WAY I will allow ANY FedEx store to seal/reseal my packages. Never needed anybody to "inspect" before, so I will not start now. I wouldn't trust it. They trying to scope out your expensive stuff for theft.

From my decades of shipping via work, there is NO FedEx store that can actually tape properly. You have some young person that wasn't even born when I started work shipping, trying to not allow me to tape my own box, and do a piss poor job taping.

When I package items, I over package. Soft foam, bubble wrap, you name it. It get's properly taped so it will not open up.

“Two chimps with a shopping cart” would do a better job than FEDEX

Its not just FedEx. I sold some cables recently and shipped them via USPS. The buyer WANTED to sign for the delivery to avoid porch pirates so he paid extra for it. Thankfully, the cables were sitting by his mailbox but he never signed for it. Us "small guys" need to start taking these delivery companies to court and not just accept their denial for reimbursement if the package doesn't get delivered.

Maybe someone needs to compile some information and create a thread that deals with shipping abuse, as well as shipper and receiver responsibilities. Links on information, forms to download, documentation procedures, checklists to follow. Include FedEx, UPS, USPS, Amazon, and any other shipping service.

That would be a lot of work but, yeah, it's a good idea.

USPS has gotten pretty bad lately. I own a business that ships close to 1000 packages a day, primarily using UPS and USPS. We have had so many complaints about USPS shipping that we try to avoid using them when we can. UPS has been much more reliable.

Here's a USPS tracking history that you will find humorous. This was a package sent from a business (not mine) to one of my employees, but it shows how bad USPS can get. This package was eventually delivered on March 18th (shipped Feb 10), so I'm not sure how much longer the tracking will be available.
