Those are all sequels, not remakes.

Sequels aren't always bad. And Batman Begins isn't really a sequel as it doesn't have anything to do with the other 5 movies.

There do seem to be a number of remakes this year...Amityville Horror, War of the Worlds, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...

I don't know if you all have noticed, but just about every year in recent memory is the year of the sequel and the remake. Can't say it bothers me though, a good night at the movies is a good night at the movies.

Hope they didn't ruin War of the Worlds.  It has the potential to be the Gone with the Wind of Sci Fi Flicks.

But if they build it around special effects and Tom Cruise it might be a flunk.  I've got my fingers crossed.

Speilberg certainly has the talent and juice to do it right.

Now if some Producer would just take a look at Forbidden Planet    Leslie Neilsen could play Dr.  Morbius, and Dan Augustino could play the Krell

Not sure if it would be classified as a remake, but I will say that the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was a huge disappointment to me.  I was a fan of the books (the 4-book "trilogy") enough that my high school yearbook quote over 20 years ago was from the first book ("Does it, cosmically speaking, really matter if I don't get up and go to work?").  The movie can't seem to decide whether or not to be goofy or semi-realistic.

The original BBC TV show was far better:
