I had a little scare today.  As you know, I purchased a third X3 for center channel duties.  Today, I was playing a Jazz album (CHRIS BOTTI, NIGHT SESSIONS in 5.1 multichannel, DSD 64).  Lots of bass.  As I was listening, I thought the center channel was not producing enough bass.  I felt the rear of the bass driver on all three speakers.  The left and right speakers were pulsing away.  But, the center channel sub was barely moving.  My heart dropped.  I thought I got a defective speaker.  So, I swapped the left and center channel speaker wires.  Whew!  Center channel sub was rockin' and rollin'.  Left channel sub was quiet.  Must be the way the music was mixed.

Is it hooked to a receiver or an HT pre-pro?  If so, check to make sure the center channel is set to "Full Range".

No pre/pro or receiver.  Music from DAC direct to my amplifier.  It is all good now that I checked and verified sub is working properly.

Can someone who has a pair of X3's please take a look at the Hypex plate amp and tell me the model number.

It is probably something like FA501

Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the replies. It is appreciated. According to their website Hypex does still carry the FA501.

For someone wanting to replace their problem X3/X5 plate amp this is good news. Also according to David Whitt, Clayton still has the ability and willingness to update the onboard DSP so the amp will integrate with our X3/X5 speakers.

Hello All!

I am picking up a pair of X3 Premium tomorrow. I'm excited! Can anyone tell me what is different between the regular X3's and the X3 Premium? Also, does anyone know if the powered woofer is a servo controlled sub/amp?

Thanks!

Audiophiles... I am planning on using a Decware Zen Triode 25th Anniversary model amplifier with my new Spatial Audio X3's. At 97db efficient and the on-board powered woofer, I'm hoping this amp will work well. If not I have other power amps that will power these without issue.

My question is this... have any of you used a Decware Zen Triode amp at only 2.3 watts to drive the X3's? If so, what was your experience?
My room is a small 13'X10' guest bedroom with some acoustic treatment, so I don't need much power.

Looking forward to any information you may offer.

Thanks

Sam

Hello.  I have used a Tori jr at 20wpc with my x5s.  While decent they really opened  up when I tried instead the ps audio m1200 Monoblocks.  Better sound at low volumes , more detail
, more 3d.  Just better in every way except maybe in the vocal midrange.
Don’t think a little over 2 watts will cut it but that depends on what you listen to , room size etc.
Maybe in your 13x10 room it will be enough.

I agree with Jprod.  My 30 watt/channel amps were plenty for my X5s but moving up to 200 w/channel just seemed to be an improvement especially at lower volumes.  I also don't believe 2 watts will be enough.

I believe the premium X3/X5 just had the latest crossover parts which were the Ven Haus Odams.  The original models had Clarity cap CSAs.  The drivers are the same.
