Is the Cornet my best choice for my TT setup and system?

I just got back into vinyl again and now I am shopping for a phono preamp to mate to my new TT setup(Rega P25/RB600/Super Elys MM Cart). Since all the rest of the signal chain is SS, I want to make my phono preamp a tubed unit.

With that in mind, I am considering the Cornet, the bottlehead Seduction, the Ear and the AES PH-1 phono preamps. How do these units compare to each other, and which is best matched to my TT setup?

Also, I have been able to find mint used Seductions and AES PH-1s and an occasional Ear for under $500, but I can't seem to find any Cornets on the used market or for a price I can afford, assembled.

Thanks for your help and opinions on my upcoming decision.

Well, I have only heard my Cornet out of those four, but since nobody else has answered I'll tell you some of the reasons I selected it.  In no particular order:

- tube recitifier
- schematic posted on Jim's site (others make you pay)
- numerous positive reviews, most noting how quiet the Cornet is
- technical, no-bs website.  No scantily clad women, etc.
- Cornet is essentially a complete kit.   Factor cost of upgrades into the price of some of the others
- Product is well supported - see this forum...
- I like the half-kit idea for DIY

Sounds like you're not DIY, though, and I'm not surprised you are having trouble finding used Cornets for any price.  For $500 I think you have to DIY...  I'm sure it would sound great in your system, though...  hope this helps...

You might try posting in the vinyl forum on audioasylum.  I don't have any experience with the other units you mention, but there's lots of opinions on asylum.
