DMP 8 DAC Filters / App Stability
« on: 24 Jan 2025, 03:44 am »
Any ideas where the DAC filter option might have gone?  I was putzin with the filters yesterday and went back to  play again a few minutes later and could not find the option under Settings > Audio.  It’s been power cycled several times since and it’s still missing.
I also just had the weirdest thing happen.  I was messing with Qobuz when I heard a moderate popping sound then nothing but quiet.  The spectrum display was doing its thing so I assume there was signal, it just wasn’t going anywhere.  Inputs and outputs were set correctly.  Power cycled the unit and it started working.
Are these things flaky like that or generally pretty solid? I’m a week into a 30 day demo period so I have some time but I’m pretty intolerant of fussy software.

The DAC filter only applies to the analogue output, so the setting is under "XLR/RCA output"

That seems to be the logic at least.

I've had an A8 for months and never experienced a hiccup. I use it as a Roon endpoint, which is seamless and gives me direct control of the resistor ladder volume on the A8 via Roon.

I used the built-in player software briefly, but I've never found any built-in streamer software that was any good. My Qobuz playback is via Roon.

The only other things I would consider is turning off "auto play queue" and "automatically switch input source" and turn off ReplayGain.

If the software is doing some kind of "auto" thing then that's a perennial source of issues for any software. For example if there are two sources connected and one source sends a brief signal (because it is glitchy for some reason) then the Eversolo could try to autoswitch and produce a dropout.

ReplayGain is useful for background music at a party, but it applies digital compression/expansion to every file so it degrades the sound. Imaging and soundstage will typically suffer.

On the other hand, it's important to leave "Eversolo Original sampling" switched on. This bypasses the built-in Android OS audio system (which isn't great) and makes a big difference in sound quality.

Finally, have you gone to "Settings-->About-->Check Version" to make sure the Eversolo software is up to date?

Many thanks for your help!

I would have sworn that I looked under the outputs, but there it was just like you said.  Thanks also for the recommendations.  I haven’t taken the time yet to dig into the many options.

S/W version is 1.4.01.  I’m not sure that’s the latest but will poke at it later.

Thanks again

1.4.01 is current for the A8. They do seem to try to improve and fix things 3-4 times per year, but none of that has affected its use with Roon since Roon Ready was added.

Thank you for confirming the SW version.  I don’t have much of a library to manage so I’ve not seriously considered Roon.  As such I’m reliant on the player native app.
My experience is mostly with BlueSound, which I like, but my needs are pretty basic.  Native Radio Paradise, Qobuz, and TuneIn cover 99% of my listening.  So far the Eversolo app is every bit as good as BlueSound.
And so long as my problems can continue to be traced to user error I’ll be quite happy with the pair.

That makes good sense. I hope you don't have any further issues with it.
