bugs in my sp1.7 !!!
« on: 13 May 2005, 07:52 am »
I'VE FOUND A FEW STRANGE THINGS ABOUT MY SP1.7:

- dvd digital works, but analogue stereo doesn't work aside, only analogue 5.1(normal?)

- distorted test signal in digital mode in right front and right rear channel, analogue works fine

- when a cd player is connected digital not analogue, I can still hear the digital source in the bypass mode (da converter must be working then, or?). connected to other sources than CD I can't hear any connected digital input on that source.

- at starting up I can hear the "starting up noise" of the 4bsst over the rear channels, quite loud. My sp1.7 seams to be quite sensitive to ticks and cracklings, even connected to the same powergroup.

first of all: I love the sp1.7, sounds great, but...
since I have the sp1.7 i have had a few strange encounters:

- dvd digital works, but analogue stereo doesn't work aside, only analogue 5.1

- distorted test signal in digital mode in right front and right rear channel, analogue works fine

- when connected digital, I can still hear it in the analogue bypass mode, normal level???? which made me wonder about the "total bypass".

- at starting up I can hear the "starting up noise" of the 4bsst over ...

Hi Sniels, hopefully Bryston can help you out.   I just wanted to note that I too get the "distorted" test signal in digital mode in the right front and right rear channels.   I never really considered it a big deal as I use other methods for setting my levels, but now that you mention it, I wonder what causes it?

I noticed that one also.  It comes and go.  Bryston service may not be able to replicate the problem.  It is not critical for me, only when I change something that's when I need to recalibrate.  This is an SP1.7 feature I don't normally use on a regular basis. :D

TECHNICAL QUESTION

Is the Da Converter situated before the Bypass?
that would explain that i can listen to a digital source even switched to bypass.
