My "new" favorite speaker... X-LS Encore
« on: 23 Mar 2025, 12:50 pm »
I got the 2nd hand X-LS Encore walnut cabinets from Denton put together and they have been running in for a few days... what a great speaker!!!

I have Sonicap on the tweeter and JB JFX on the woofer (I like JB JFX).  Goertz copper foil on woofer but didn't have copper foil for tweeter.  Dayton green resistors.  I think I am going to put even better parts on it.  Swap out resistors and woofer cap.

This is a great little speaker.  Sounds like a classic.  The bass is coming in a bit better now but the midrange... the midrange is so good.

But many of you already know that.  :thumb:

So that M165NQ... an "NQ-Encore" really needs to be heard.  That's a bit bigger cabinet... and I bet that would be an incredible 2-way with soft dome goodness.

An 8" NQ-Encore 2-way also REALLY needs to be heard...sit it next to the Duette... it would sell All Day Long... that Wilson Duette you see sitting there sounds like a legit, full range, floor standing speaker.  I am not kidding.  It's shocking... coherent... and why I am sold on that 8" 2-way alignment.  I'm working on another project with another member here that incorporates the Duelund Precision Audio 8" driver, and Duelund soft dome tweeter.  Both are modified Scan-Speak units.

Incredible sound can be had with speakers as simple as this.

Duelund Coherent Audio Monitor - the entire cabinet is double wall Baltic Birch.

I wish I could convince Peter to put his perfectionist detail on this speaker and his CNC machine...

This is from another thread, which you apparently have not seen, so I thought I'd put it here.

How do you go about selecting 'wire' to actually listen to?

Sorry, I answered over there. :thumb:
