Not sure if this is the best place for my question but I know that you guys are smart so...  I made some N3s a number of years ago and that's why came to this circle. Anyway,  I'm a cheap and cheerful type of audio guy and my system sounded very nice but was kind of complicated.  So, getting right to the point I set up my system like this:  Wiim mini-SMSL-SU1- Little Dot mkII- Virtue audio 2 going into the N3s and an xsub.  It sounds really terrific.  My only issue is that after I power on the amp and then the pre amp (Little Dot) I get a hum from the speakers.  It lasts about 5 seconds and doesn't come back while I'm listening.  Is this bad for the speakers?  Is there something I can do about it?  I also get 2 clicks in between songs (weird).  Last week I had the streamer and dac on a Music Hall amp.  No issues on that amp (but this setup sounds much better).  Any help appreciated, thanks!

You maybe experiencing turn on transients from the electronics.

The typical way to turn on a system is the source components, then the preamp then the power amp.  Turn them off in the opposite order.

This prevents transients getting to the power amp from the other components.

If it persists even after this, then it maybe the preamp power supply caps are going bad.  Most likely it is just system turn on transients.  A speaker itself does not make a hum.

Probably not what your issue is, however a few months ago we had some storms that knocked down tree limbs on power lines.  The grid was re routed to supply power til crews got lines fixed.  Meanwhile, I experienced a buzz in my speakers.  It had to be transformer buzz from “dirty”power.  My mono block amps are not hooked into a line conditioner.  When I plugged them into my isolation transformer that all my dacs and sensitive electronics are plugged into….buzz went away.   I cannot draw amplifier power through my isolation transformer but it proved that it wasnt my stuff.  It was the city power.

Clicks between songs is from streamer, maybe due to changing audio resolution between tracks or similar digital fart.

While turning on in correct order may alleviate your symptoms, there  shouldn't be buzz or voltage offset causing transients. I suspect the tube preamp would benefit from a check-up.

Thanks.  I think you may be right about the pre amp.  The volume pot is a bit noisy if I wiggle it.  Interesting about the clicks.

The clicks between changing tracks is most likely the sample rate changing between tracks.  The Wiim has a couple features to deal with this, but they're not 100% of the time effective.  There's the Sample rate switch latency setting under audio output, and also the fade-in/fade-out effects under audio settings. Try playing around with either of these to see if they help.
