I am looking for a good valve pre-amp.
I listen only to acoustic music - mostly female vocals.
The JJ243 is said to be very linear, warm and detailed.

Any thoughts or experience to help me?
 I want to run it with a SS power amp - possibly Nuforce Ref 8's.

I use the JJ 243 in my system and love it - great build quality, sounds just like you described it, and has a great MM/MC phono stage to boot.  I found one used for around $1,200 shipped and have no plans to replace it soon.  Right now I'm using it with a VAC amp, but will soon be getting Dodd Audio monoblocks.  I also will be auditioning the Nuforce amps, but doubt they will better the Dodd amps with my Soliloquy speakers, which are pretty easy to drive.
