Connecting MacBook to Bryston BDA 3
« on: 31 Jan 2025, 03:49 pm »
Hello
I have an older MacBook as my digital source (will be upgrading source in near future) with USB A and HDMI ports and I use Apple Music with an External hard drive for the files.
When listening through USB the music consistently stops after a few minutes and I have to turn my DAC on and off and it runs for another few minutes.
This just started happening, my CD transport through Optical works fine. I have tried different USB cables and different USB ports on both my Mac and DAC

I tried a newer MacBook with a USB-C to USB-A adapter to the DAC USB port and that works fine.

I tried a HDMI from my older mac to the DAC and that works. I guess the question is, is there a sound/quality difference in connecting my MacBook via USB or HDMI. I know that one of the BDA HDMI ports is a faster port so I could get a HDMI 2.2 compatible cable

I also have this question but with a Mac mini instead of a MacBook.
Mac mini -> HDMI -> BDA3 (then analog out to audio system) -> HDMIout -> video monitor

or

Mac mini -> HDMI -> video monitor
and
Mac mini -> USB -> BDA3 (then analog out to audio system)
