Purifi Ushindi transducers
« on: 12 May 2023, 11:50 pm »
I’m wondering if anyone has experience with these drivers.

They just published an interesting white paper with plenty of measurements and charts. So much so that it getting very technical, and I can't grasp it completely.

It does look interesting on paper and good for OB design as well…Pricing isn’t cheap but cheap things aren’t good….Well, most of the time. (GR Stuff excluded) 😉

Anyhow, if anyone has experience with their ears👂 I’m looking forward to your views.

Thanks and happy Saturday night!

We've worked on a couple custom speakers using the Purifi 6.5" paper woofer.

Matter of fact, one was here just a couple weeks ago, paired with one of our Neo 3s in a custom waveguide. Turned out quite well.
They were well behaved woofers, but I've yet to hear anything that uses them, and we haven't looked at any of their other woofers yet either.

The speaker design is certainly well braced with large, smooth round overs and thick cabinet walls with lots of braces.  Should do a good job controlling for internal resonances and eliminate any diffraction, but there's definitely going to be either an external crossover, or more likely, digitally controlled by the amplifier using a digital crossover/DSP.

I'd be curious, to hear it for what it is.

I find their measurement quite comprehensive, to say the least!! This team that Bruno Putzeys assembled
are a bunch of mathematics / Physics  Geniuses, that aren't always reflected in the results but it does make it interesting and shake the status quo...Which is always a good thing.

I’m wondering (Since the line force is out for now) how these would work on an NX Otica type...Would it be worth it to tinker with these...🤔

Yeah the 5th order cover 🤣🤯 that's...I’m all for the use of science to tackle these challenges but man...It would be quo a box in itself indeed! Pretty sure you and Danny can find a simpler way to yield similar results...The law of depreciating return surely applies at some point!

Thanks for the response Hobb!

It says right off the bat the tweeter is a new design and a prototype. I haven't seen the woofer mentioned anywhere. That is a ridiculous polar plot, I've never seen anything like it.  :o

I believe the Neo 3 is very hard to beat on the top end. Not interested in the experimental tweeter. It's the mid-range driver that's intriguing:

Looks like they have a 4 - 6 & 6 1/2 of the same series

The 4 ohm 6-1/2s are the ones Hobbs was talking about. I've been listening to the prototypes of the speakers Hobbs mentioned for the last couple years as they have gone through a number of renditions. I can tell you this, they sounded very good before Danny's crossover design but they sound exceptional now. You will be able to listen to them at the Lone Star Audio Fest at the end of the month in the Audio Crafters Guild room.

Holy cow, that tweeter is the story here. I've never seen anything like it. That's groundbreaking performance. I thought it might be an April fool's joke when I first read through it.

All their woofers are amazing in their own right. I have the x series woofers in a diy build. Just lovely.  Haven't heard the Aluminum model.

I did a couple of bass reflex designs with the 8 ohm Purifi drivers and the SB acoustics Satori BE tweeters that turned out pretty good.  Unfortunately, those Purifi drivers are real pricey.
