Hello from vintage audio equipment enthusiast.
« on: 11 Feb 2023, 06:36 am »
Hello, this is John saying hi.

My interest in audio equipment started when I was a teenager building my own loudspeaker enclosures and I’ve kept the interest going ever since.
I’m fascinated by owning and restoring vintage audio equipment, the oldest equipment still in my possession is a Revox B790 Linatrack turntable I purchased new in 1978 (picture in my avatar), the newest in my possession is a Bryston 3Be power amp I purchased new in 1992.
The rest of my audio equipment I bought during the 1980s; Spectral DMC-10 preamp, Threshold PCX Crossover, Oracle Premiere turntable, Acoustat Model 2 speakers etc.

Looking forward to sharing experiences with like-minded enthusiasts.

Phil A

Dear FullRangeMan,

Thank you to Phil A, kd4ylq and yourself for the kind welcome replies.
As a Facilitator of the Introductions Circle, may I ask your advice please on how best to proceed for the first time?

To get started I would like to post and share two reports I've compiled of the hints and lessons learned from restoring my two Bryston power amplifiers, a 2B that I purchased new in 1979 and a 3Be I purchased new in 1992 (PDF reports with photos are 3 pages 700 KB, and 7 pages 1.5 MB, respectively).

1. Which circle would be best to post to, The Vintage Circle, or the Industry Circle for Bryston Limited?  While the age of the 2B fits with The Vintage Circle, would posting my 2B and 3Be reports to the Industry Circle for Bryston be more appropriate?

2. Looking through the Industry Circle for Bryston I read a wealth of information on the positive experiences of owning Bryston’s products, but not so much information on restorations conducted by owners.
Would posting these restoration reports be suitable for this forum?

Thank you for your consideration.
John

Hi,
I would say the Vintage Circle, I could not suggest the Bryston Circle without first consulting James. I will read with interest your reports, thankyou for posting.

Dear FullRangeMan,

Thank you for your prompt reply, as I am new to this site it's precisely the feedback I was looking for.
As a first document sharing, I posted "Bryston 2B Power Amplifier repair - Hints and Lessons Learned" to the Vintage Circle.
Side note, I didn’t see a straightforward way to post a PDF document so I rebuilt the report as text and separate images and posted accordingly, hopefully it turned out okay.

Thank you,
John

Welcome to the AC, John,

You have some very nice gear-- I wager some would kill for your turntable!

I'm a long-time wire-stator ESL designer and builder with great admiration for Acoustats, which I regard as the most reliable ESLs ever produced.

Enjoy the AC!
