New member introduction
« on: 5 May 2023, 09:32 pm »
Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I'm really excited to be here. I'm a lifelong audiophile and I love everything about music. I love listening to music, playing music, and talking about music. I'm always looking for new ways to improve my listening experience and I'm always up for a good discussion about music.

I'm particularly interested in high-end audio equipment and I'm always on the lookout for new gear to try. I'm also interested in learning more about the science of sound and how it affects our perception of music.

I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone in this forum and I hope to learn a lot from you all.

Thanks.

Phil A

Welcome!

Loudspeakers are the most important component in the system.  The environment (room) is the 2nd.  Everything else follows.

Recommend looking into active monitors (they use low voltage crossovers to feed one channel of amplification per driver).  The crossovers can be very sophisticated (including room correction) and the amp/driver arrangement allows for direct pairing for better dynamics and greater deep bass for the given cabinet volume.  Some active monitors include DAC's and other features.  No speaker cables needed.  Buchardt A500 is one of more advanced offerings.

Suggest reading Floyd Toole's book "Sound Reproduction" for an explanation of how sound behaves in rooms.  Toole is a well known and respected audiologist.

Thank you for your warm welcome and for sharing your insights on loudspeakers and room acoustics. Your recommendation of active monitors is intriguing, especially with the low voltage crossovers and direct pairing for better dynamics and deep bass. The Buchardt A500 seems like a great option with its advanced features and no need for speaker cables. Thank you also for the suggestion to read Floyd Toole's "Sound Reproduction" for a better understanding of sound behavior in rooms. Your expertise is greatly appreciated!

I'm also interested in learning more about the science of sound and how it affects our perception of music.

I will second all these.
Iam always interested in hi-end equips not to buy, but to see if I can implement something DIY in my system.  8)
