FS: SP Technologies Timepiece 3.0
« on: 5 Aug 2020, 05:18 pm »
For local pickup only in the Los Angeles area (91745), I have a pair of SP Tech Timepiece 3.0 monitors. I custom ordered these over 10 years ago in an oak finish. They have served me well over all these years, but it's time for me to move on. Many years ago, I wrote this description of their sound : https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=95708.0

I recall that this design used a 8" seas magnesium woofer crossed to a seas waveguide mounted tweeter at circa 600hz.  Cabinets are really solid and weigh about 60 lbs each. Bob said that he applied constrained damping techniques. Knuckle rapping test is about as dead as you can ask for. These are large ported boxes rated with an f3 of about 32hz, as I recall, which agrees with the modeling software. Over the years, a couple minor splits have occurred at seams in the joined wood exterior panels . They are not generally visible to me at any listening position/distance and do not affect operation. I understand the impact on assistance can be minimized with a brown sealer.

I paid over $3000 for these speakers, and it hurts to let them go. However, finances are tight during these times, and it is what it is. I will not be able to ship them due to the weight.

Asking $1000 obo. PayPal accepted.

I am a good friend of Bob Smith.   I have read up on the Timepiece speakers and talked to him extensively about them.  Does your pair have any upgrades to the crossover, caps, or wiring?  I'm been to Bob's house several times and heard his speakers including the Revelations which he said were not quite working properly.  Bob upgrade my Nuforce Ref 9 V3 SE mono amps with the TDSS level 3 upgrades.  These amps that I already liked the sound of are now keepers for as long a they hold up.  He told me he would warranty them for life for me.  The improved version of the Ref 9's are a flat out awesome pair of amps.  I have relatives that live in the LA area within an hour or so.  I am about 90 minutes west of Bob in Plainfield, IL.  Is there any way you would ship them?  I know speakers are pretty expensive to ship.  I've done quite a few to California from the Chicago area.

Hi Abe,

Could you tell me the height, width and depth of the speakers?

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,

12.5" wide, 21.5" tall, 16" deep, not counting for the handles on the back access panel.

Bob, I hate to say this, but I'm having second thoughts about selling the speakers. I finally hooked them up in a second system, courtesy of a dirt cheap Chromecast, and darned if I know what I'd replace them with that would approach this level of performance. They sound so good!

Next time you connect with Bob Smith, please send him my regards!

Hi,

You know sometimes its better to keep speakers than selling them off cheaply. I've got a pair of Nuforce s9's which are a damn fine speaker and I know that the Timepieces have a better midrange driver and tweeter.

Best of luck.

Cheers Rod

Hey Abe,

Good move on keeping these speakers.  It allows me to forget about them entirely.  I really like the speakers I have anyway.

Good listening.

These are back on the market!  I'm just not using them, better to let someone else enjoy them.
