Count Down

I ordered M4 Sapphires with Sapele baffles on January 4, 2022 and they arrived last Tuesday, just two days after my birthday.  The speakers are really nice looking and I'm pleased with the choice of Sapele.  Fit and finish is superb on the chassis and baffles.

Showing great restraint I covered them with quilts and ran them 12 hours on 4 hours off till this morning.  I figure I have around 90 hours on them and having read that Clayton says they're pretty well broken in at 100 hours I decided I was close enough.  I used an elderly Pioneer SX-950 running at a pretty loud level on an FM station for break in.

My room is 14'X14' with a vaulted 16' ceiling and the M4 was a good choice to fill that space.  Speakers are around 32" from side walls and front wall.  I sit about 10.5 from the speakers. Heavy drapes for the large window on the back wall and a large area rug is it for room treatments. Two Zero Gravity chairs for seating.

Using a Primaluna Dialog Premium HP integrated with KT-120s (about 86 watts) and streaming through a Node2i it all sounds pretty fine!  Played Chris Stapleton's "Death Row" first as a nod to Ron at Record Day on YouTube.  Sometime this afternoon I will fire up the Rega 3/Hana MC and spin a platter through the Audio by Van Alstine phono preamp.  I have not heard the AVA yet after buying it a couple of weeks ago.
About the M4s that replaced a pair of Spatial M3 Turbo S...plenty of bass.  I have an SVS sub that I see no need for at this point.

So thank you to the folks at Spatial Audio Lab!

That's it for now........

I found with mine, there were big improvements at 100 hours, 250 hours and 500 hours.  Also nice choice, the M4's look very cool indeed.  Keep us posted as you get more time on them.

... and having read that Clayton says they're pretty well broken in at 100 hours I decided I was close enough.

That brought a smile to my face :D

At 100 hours I decided that I would not sell my new X5's. The bass was starting to fill in and the treble was less bright.

I have owned mine for about 6 months now. Not sure how many hours I have on them but it must be more than 300. They are now amazing. They are dynamic with a spooky real soundstage and are in no way fatiguing. Bass is accurate and plentiful.

My wife now says "Why would anyone go to a concert when they had this?". That made my day!

Hey Tarheel,
it's great to hear that there is another Spatial convert in the RTP area. I'm just outside Chapel Hill, the "Southern Part of Heaven" as the realtors repeat incessantly. My M3T's took a very long time to break in (I didn't count the hours, it was more like years), but now I love the heck out of them and am thinking of buying a new pair of M3 sapphires to create an independent second system in the location where I originally had the M3T's. I was very surprised at how good the M3T's sound now that they are oriented across the short dimension of my living room - so much so that now I can't imagine moving them from that spot. Now want a new pair of Spatials to fire down the long dimension of the LR! What is your preferred speaker orientation, signal sources and amplification chain?

Down in Wilmington....on the coast.  I had M3 Turbo S which I thought were great though mine were bought used and already broken in.  Sold them to a young man who drove down from Raleigh to audition them.  He took them with him when he left!

Nothing special as far as gear goes though I do have two systems at different houses.

For the Sapphires I use a PrimaLuna Dialog Premium HP with 8 KT-120 power tubes. A Rega P3 with Hana EH MC cartridge and a Rega Fono Mk.3 phono preamp.  Also have an AVA Vision Q pre that is out for repair and a Sweet Vinyl Sugar Cube SC-1 pop and tic machine also out for repair.  Still playing CDs on an older Jolida JD100 and a Maverick Tube Magic DAC.  A Denon DP-1250 with Rega armnfor spinning vinyl in the second system.

Stop by if you get down to the coast!

Thinking of bringing over my Transcendent Sound "The Masterpiece" with 300b tubes and a solid state ATI 1502 to see how they pair with the Spatials.
