Can X series Portray soundstage height
« on: 25 Mar 2022, 03:24 am »
Too all that have heard the Spatial speakers I ask how is the  soundstage height? I have owned planar speakers for years and like their ability to produce to produce life size images. I have a hard time listening to bookshelf size speakers because singers sound like they are 3ft tall. With the height of the speaker being less than 4 feet tall does the imaging extend above the physical size of the speaker?

They will if it is on the recording, but unlike some panels, they don't expand everything to an unnatural state. If your gear is designed well and throws a good sound stage the Spatial will give it back to you. They feed you, with what you feed them with.

Agree with Mr. Big the Spatial's will give you what they're fed. They are probably the most revealing speaker I've heard and respond extremely well to great gear and great recordings.

How about vinyl playback, which is 99% of what is on my system?

I actually prefer vinyl listening when I have time to change sides and sit. The music has so much more air and depth than digital. There is nothing like listening to a good MOFI or Analogue Production pressing! There is an audible difference in comparison.

Soundstage height, width, depth - all excellent on the X series.

Digital sounds great on them also. I grew up with Vinyl, it is very good, but then so are CDs if mastered with care. I have more good-sounding CDs than I ever did with Vinyl where I had 500 or so LPs that all sounded superb, and I now have 1,500 CDs that all sound superb. I owned over 2,000 LPs over the years and in the 500 or so of them, I could enjoy on my audio system.

As a former owner of the Maggies 1.7i's, my X5's soundstage height does extend higher than the speakers themselves but not as high as the Maggies portrayed.  However, with the quality of sound the X5's delivers you will not miss any height issues.

I'd suggest you see if there is someone in your neck of the woods who can audition the speakers for you.

I had the LRS and then the .7s and I'm fine with my X5s, easier to drive and more dynamic with the same type of dipole big imaging.
