Hi all. Once again I have received the dreaded Error 09 on my BDP-1. At first start I didn’t hear the “beep” on start-up, nor did the BDP connect with my BDA-1. So, I pulled off the top and replaced the 2032 battery. When I turned it on, the “beep” happened and it connected with the dac. But, it never went beyond initialization and soon lost connection and the error message appeared. So, I took off the top again, checked all the connections and reseated the battery and CF card and tried again. Same thing. It will come on and connect with the dac for a while, then lose connection and show the Error 09 message again. I don’t know what to do next. Anyone have an idea? Chris?

Well, I sure was hoping someone could help. The last time this happened to me I got all kinds of suggestions. I’ve tried everything from the old threads and nothing has worked. Please help!

It’s happened  to me twice !! First time with diagnosis help from Bryston. Was a card failure in the player, we sent in they replaced and was good for a year, next 09 error came back tried battery same thing however they replaced card inside again under warranty 😃 mostly good until just a few weeks ago 09 error is back but unit will work if I un plug power, maybe this time it’s a battery ? Will try this week.

Try plugging/unplugging the data cables.  This was the issue with mine.

This was a pretty common issue when I had my BDP-1.

Tried all the usual remedies, replace CF card, reflash CF card, jiggle cables, replace battery, etc.

The only thing that seemed to get it working was power cycling the unit a number of times (plugging/unplugging) from wall, sometimes it would take several attempts but eventually it would work again for a while.

Hi, I have a BDP1 and this happened to me too.  First to let you know, my music library was all on usb hard drives plugged into unit.  When I took it to Bryston to trouuble shoot, and couldn't find anything, was told my library was too big and suggested to put my music on  a external hard drive plugged into my own local network.  That seemed to fix the problem, don't know if you're in that same situation or not, but thought I would share.

Approx  4TB I believe, around 75000 songs

Wow! That is way too big for the BDP-1. I don’t have my owner’s manual handy, but I believe Bryston used to recommend that you use no bigger than 750 MB hard drives plugged into the back inputs.

Yeah, that's what bryston said, BDP1 not designed for a large library, they recommended to upgrade to BDP2 or the big hard drive that you plug into a network.  I opted for the hard drive option since the wife bought the unit for me as  an anniversary gift,.

I found a solution for my problem too. I bought a BDP-3! 😁

Whew!  I have the BDP-pi.  I have a 2 TB WD Passport drive attached to it.  There are over 46K files (mostly classical movements, equivalent to "songs").  So far I've had no problems.
