I would delete this post . It can only hurt Bryston. Nothing to be gained by letting people know this exists

How do you figure there is nothing to be gained? Bryston is a great Canadian story, and they don't manufacture in China. Their products are made here in Canada with Canadian labour and technology. There are other Bryston knock off from China as well on Ebay US. What hurts a company is when imitators come along with an inferior product purporting to be something they are not. What happens when somebody buys this produce and they hate it and they start telling their friends what a bad product Bryston makes. Or it is posted online what a bad product it is. Stuff like this should be pointed out.

They are many Chinese copies of audio circuits and gear all over the internet. Bryston, Conrad Johnson, Audioquest, Siltech, MBL, Pass, etc. A lot of times the patient has run-out or the company never had one to begin with. To me, trademark infringement is a bigger concern but, of course, do you really think you're buying a brand new Bryston preamp for $400 just because it says "Bryston" on it? I agree EBay should do a better job of policing their website but ultimately it comes down to the manufacturers to aggressively go after these sellers if they feel they have been damaged and it would make economic sense to go after them.

The vast majority of Chinese audio knokoffs are of decades old circuits that have been made publuc long ago.

I really don't see a problem with that. In fact, a friend of mine has  a MBL 6010 'clone' preamp that he bought a couple of years ago as a stopgap until he decided what preamp he was going to buy. Cost him abou $300.

Ended up sounding so good, he hasn't felt any rush to buy another pre.

But this one is another story. This is a current product, right?

This way over the line.

Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery; however, intellectual theft is a whole other matter.  I have purchased some products from China on Ebay.  My only audio purchase was a Little Bear 2 tube preamp-tube lights were Leds under the tube socket.  It quickly gave up one channel and I gave it away.  On the other hand, it does take some serious knowledge/ability to safely erect a 10-story scaffold out of bamboo.

I do like the fact that Pass Labs will put out a modified schematic on older equipment.  I have never tried one, but they do look intriguing.  His site has lots of tips on the build.

Nothing to be too worried about only concern is when the case looks exactly like a Bryston amp.

People that buy knock off/circuit copy Bryston  will never a real Bryston.

Some of the Chinese manufactures are brutal. My wife worked in supply chain management for a  North American Communications company . Some of the equipment was manufactured in China but not all,  as  some markets forbid Chinese  manufactured communications   equipment. This particular Chinese company was making a play to have all the manufacturing. When my wife explained why that could not happen, their reply was epic... IF the country of origin is the only problem, .....what country of origin would you like stamped on the product?

Hi Al - you know over the years there have been a few and we purchased some and tested them and realized we had nothing to be concerned about performance wise.

...must have been some kind of funny experience for the seller knowing that Bryston now buys ''Bryston-gear''.

however, at the end of the day you know who you are. and so do we.

thanks that you are  Bryston :thumb:

Nobody seeking out a fine Bryston product would be fooled by the Chinese knockoff.
Unless you are a total newbie. One easy Google search would tell the story.
Bryston rules!!!

It's not just eBay - sold here too - https://www.aliexpress.com/i/1005001667236674.html      No question there should be better respect for owned trademarks and not using someone elses name.

They can say whatever they want in the ad copy but some of those knock-offs actually say "Mark Levinson" or "Krell" on the faceplate.

Agree - it's an issue and not just for audio products - e.g. https://news.panasonic.com/global/stories/2019/69646.html
