Power conditioner for Bryston 7B3s?
« on: 2 Nov 2021, 10:07 am »
I am thinking of upgrading my Bryston 4B2 to two 7B3s.  This would free a space in my rack where I could put a power conditioner.  As far as I can see, Bryston power conditioners are not available in the UK.

At present, I am using an AQ Niagara 1200, which sits next to the rack, and which created an improvement in sound quality.  The Niagara 3000 apparently has “Transient Power Correction: 55 amps peak. Provides a current reservoir for any power amplifier (up to 25mS)”, and claims to actually improve the performance of power amps.

Has anyone had any experience with Bryston power amps connected to power conditioners?

I run a pair of 28B-SST2's and a 4B-SST into my Furman IT-Reference (predecessor to the now IT-Reference 20I) with good results, so no complaints. The IT-Reference is actually connected to a Furman SPR-20i voltage regulator which is plugged into the wall. In a perfect world I would probably have a dedicated conditioner for each 28 and a separate one for the 4 along with the rest of my gear but cost and space are always an issue. I also have a pair of 7B2's which I run straight into the wall. They are at the back of my room powering my surrounds, to far away from my Furman. I never got around to getting a conditioner for them.

I believe though that Bryston amps have no issues running straight into the wall due to the power supply design however if you want some added piece of mind protection against surges or perhaps even having cleaner power supplied then make sure you are looking at a power conditioner that can properly supply the amps. Far to many conditioners out there would not be suitable for high wattage amps like the 7B3's you are looking at. If Bryston conditioners aren't available in the UK are Torus conditioners available there? Those are the units that Bryston uses, they just put their badging and faceplates on them I believe.

Hi,  Thanks for that.  That's a lot of amplification you have there.
