Mr. Tanner,
What older model (used) Bryston preamp would you recommend to match with a 6B mono and pair of 7B STs?  The 7's are for the left and right speakers, and the 6 for a center channel.  The complete system will include a CD player, a turntable, perhaps a music server, and two rear speakers.

Everyone else is welcome to chime in.  Thanks.

Have a look out for a BP20 or BP25.

Thank you for your prompt response.  But please educate me.  Besides being of the same brand, what attributes make them such a great pairing?

Hi TCB

Not sure I understand your question?

The advantage of using the Bryston preamp with the Bryston amps is the quality and performance would be optimized.

Mr. Tanner, last night I decided to put a face with the name while reading a Stereophile Magazine review of the Bryston BDP-1.  I soon realized that I've been passively watching your interviews on Bryston's products for some time on Youtube.  It's a pleasure to have you here to answer our questions.

By the way, I bought a BP-25 preamp, as recommended.  There aren't many floating around in the used market. You advised me on time.  Given your audio experience, I welcome any interconnect cable suggestions to connect the preamp to the amps.  Thanks.

Well TBJ it is a pleasure for me as well to be able to discuss issues with our customers on this forum.

As for the cable question I suggest you buy an army helmet as you have opened a real can of worms on that question. Seriously though I would recommend a medium price cable - nothing exotic - and use that as your reference point.  Going forward you can try more of the cables available and see if you think the changes you hear are positive and if the price differences are worth it.

I have had the "25" since 1999 or 2000 .Is a a very fine piece of gear. I connected everything with balanced cable and it has sounded better than all the various open end wires I had tried. Maybe this is due to noise reduction.

Mr. Tanner,
I found a pair of Bryston Van Damme XLR Ultra Pure Silver Plated OFC.  I understand that they aren't Bryston-made cables.  However, they are said to be/have been used by Bryston in their setups, listening rooms, etc.  Having said this, do you recommend them to connect my Bryston 7B ST amps and Bryston BP25 preamp?

Chime in? Don't mind if I do.

I suppose that it's too late to suggest not to buy a bp25. The sensible thing to do is to buy a BAWD-1 streaming preamp and throw the cd player and turntable in the garbage. You can sell your albums for, more than likely, what the streaming preamp costs. Some people still love vinyl, especially people who are “in the know”. This allows someone like you to upgrade his system on the cheap by offering something that a pragmatist would consider worthless to someone involved in hi-end audio considers priceless.
About your amps, are you sure you have enough power? 2500 watts seems to be pretty lame unless you have 4 ohm speakers or intend to go into the sound reinforcement business. Does one of those scenarios apply to your current situation?
No offense but, it appears that your modus operandi is to buy first and ask if it's okay to buy after the fact. Are you punking us?

Hi TJB

Yes we have used the Van Damme XLR cables for years so I certainly recommended them with our gear.

I upgraded my pre amp to a BP25 a couple of years ago. I was so impressed. It was a large difference from my previous Bryston 1B pre amp.
As much as I LOVE my Bryston pre amp, I'm still very curious to match my amazing amp(Bryston 3b3) with a tube pre amp.
I've read a tons of stuff talking about tube pre amps with solid state amps.
It's a pricey experiment though.
It's too bad many people don't have "Proper" stereo's anymore. When I was a teenager all my friends had stereo gear. Ideally it would be better to experiment by sharing equipment.
Despite what the other poster said, I still think vinyl has some nice punch.
Hope you are as happy with your BP25 as I am with mine.
Cheers

Like you, I'm also looking to get a tube preamp to mate with my amps.  I'm looking to do A/B comparisons until I find the sound that suites me.  As much as I would love to, I don't want to experiment with Class A amps.  I'm in Florida, and the idea of keeping them on continuously gives me pause.

I run a tubed Rogue RP-1 -->Quad Artera.  Artera is a SS amp.   I like the Tube/SS combo.
