What subwoofers do people use for the GR Desktop Mini? What do you think of subwoofers that include a high pass filter and go between pre-amp and power amp? Is it an actual advantage to then only pass the higher frequency to the Minis to not stress their own woofer, while all the low frequencies get routed to the external sub? The Emotiva SE8 is an example for that principle and I'm curious if anyone has experience with this setup in real-life use cases? T

Most would not recommend sending your main speaker's signal through a subwoofer filter first.  You don't really know the quality of the components used in that filter.

Luckily, I have a pre-amp that has both XLR and RCA outputting simultaneously, so XLR to the mains amplifier and RCA to the plate amplifier of the sub (and even here there may be some hard-core audiophiles cringing).

But unless you have a very low power amplifier for your main speakers, I don't think there's much advantage to filtering the signal prior.  The woofer can handle a full range signal, it's more a question of your amplification.

Timely topic because I was just about to start a thread on this very subject.   I was having issues with my Audyssey setup reporting that my speakers were out of phase.   Low and behold, I found the low-pass filter switch on the sub amp (it was set to AVR), and that corrected it.   I have the main speaker output going into the subs, and then from there to the speakers.   I'm interested in hearing how bad an idea this is.

EDIT:   I'm dumb.   I just realized that the low-pass filter switch on the Rythmik is operating with the RCA connections, which are not in use.   So it's very strange that it would effect polarity measurements.

I use a older small 10" sealed sub from VonSchwikert under my desk. It depends on how much space you have for the sub. I can't fit a 12" sub under my desk but the 10" works fine.
