I received my Son of Q balanced power system last week.

I noticed quite a difference in low end response, right away.

I didn't even have the sub amp plugged into it :D

It has also further improved the picture on my RPTV. I now have the HD cable box and the preamp/processor plugged into the digital power outlets.

Here is a picture of it's innards

That is what Equi=tech uses for a 15 amp rated transformer. :o

As this is one of their "low end" products, it only weighs 60 lbs.

Good gracious that's a big transformer.

Did this trip your circuit breaker when you first plugged it in? I recall reading that the BPT units have a tendency to do that.

No tripping of any breakers.

The design of the Equi=tech Q transformer is quite a bit different than the Plitron transformers used in the BPT product. There is very little inrush current.

This is taken from Equi=tech FAQ about their Q transformers http://www.equitech.com/faq/q.html

"Second is the inrush current issue -- the achilles heel of toroid transformers.  While probably the most efficient of all types of transformers, their relatively light core mass saturates very quickly, which means that often there will be a big current wallop when first turned on.  This can trip common circuit breakers.  But it’s just an annoyance since a  few tries will work.  Our philosophy at Equi=Tech is to build the most reliable equipment so we choose to handle the problem passively with most toroid transformers and avoid special soft-start circuits that are active.  However, the greater mass of the “Q” transformer eliminates the need for any soft start device at all because it is very difficult to saturate its core -- hence very low inrush current. Congratulations on joining the Equitech cult.  I bought a 2Q five years ago and have never looked back.  I think Equitech is a great example of what high performance audio is all about:  Sound, innovative engineering.  Bullet proof construction and operation.  Solves difficult problems.  Elevates the performance of every component in the system.

Because I have a pro audio background and have had to deal with AC buzzes, hums and groundloops more often than I'd care to remember, having a product that solves these problems once and for all AND improves the sound of a system means a lot to me.

Here's a recent example of an Equitech in action.  My church meets in a middle school auditorium and for every service we set up a video projection system and a portable sound system to amplify a full band.  The church finance board thought I was crazy for telling them to spend $1500 on an Equitech for the system.  It's a good thing they trust me.

We use notebook computers for A/V recording and playback during the service.  One Sunday the pastor wanted to use his notebook for his teaching presentation and video.  So we then used another notebook to record the service.  When both notebook computers were plugged into the system through their A/V jacks we got a HUGE hum through the sound system.  The first thing I asked is if both notebooks were plugged into the Equitech for power.  Of course the answer was no.  One was plugged directly into the wall.  Once we get both notebooks plugged into the Equitech, the hum was GONE and the noise level of the sound system was dead-quiet.

Now that's a product that works.
