I highly recommend running NearSota OTA Copper Cable.  Single Strand Solid Core Copper which I've been running as my speaker cable for over a year.  My comparisons, have been somewhat limited, but vs. my previous Black Rhodium AST 200 Bi-Wire, QED Silver Spiral, Phoenix Gold 12ga etc - i find them to be very well rounded and very reasonably priced.

After ditching my Alpha-Core M1 II's for Ratshack 22 awg. magnet wire, I took apart a 16 awg. Dayton inductor I had kicking around and made two pairs of cables. This was as big an improvement as the RS was over the Alpha-Core. After many hours of listening to reference LP's and CD's I'm still surprised. Go figure. Has anyone compared different makes of mag wire or had experience with cryoed mag wire?

How do you deal with oxidation on the wondermagnet-type stuff? Just cut every, what, 6 months and re-do it?

Deal with it the way one deals with all mechanical connections such as IC's, spades, bananas, power receptacles and plugs: clean, treat with ProGold (which I did after cleaning with steel wool, after burning off the finish).  I also use a Dremel tool with a small wire brush to clean tube pins and plug prongs. Don't use ProGold on tube pins. All these cleaning methods result in a noticeable difference.

Where can you get 12 awg insulated magnet wire? Sounds like it's worth a try. Anyone have a web site link?

All magnet wire is insulated. Usually it is a thin varnish type of insulation. The uninsulated wire is sometimes tinned and called buss wire.
Look at www.powerwerx.com for a listing of even number guage wire of 14 and smaller. They stock 1/4, 1/2, and one pound spools. The price is reasonable.
For 10 and 12 ga wire www.electronicplus.com has spools at a much higher price. Like someone recommended, you might try a local electric motor rewinder. They should have huge spools of all ga wire in stock.

I, too, think solid wires are great.  The point of my rambling below is to say that you can use the magnet wire as a foundation for your cables if you want to experiment with other materials in the future.

After much comparison and agonizing, I made some cables using some wire I had accumulated: very pure unisulated solid 18 ga. copper (not magnet wire), 23 ga. silver and ~30 ga. gold-plated copper-beryllium alloy.  Each uninsulated wire was threaded through appropriate gauge teflon tubing and bound with 1/8" techflex and terminated with soldered bananas and then shrink wrapped on the ends.  I didn't combine the + and - runs, so I have four wires for a stereo pair and there's no twisting.

I use single-driver speakers with tubes or a modded tripath eval board and they have great bass, speed, and extended highs.  I could envision these cables being too hot for many set ups such as SS w/ multi-driver speakers, but I like them for my purposes.  IMO these three wires do sound better as a group than individuals or in pairings.  Also, I imagine there are probably many scientific reasons these wires made of different materials shouldn't be good, but my ignorance is bliss.

BTW, M. Percy is a good vendor for better quality magnet wire.

250ft, wow, that's a lot of wire.
Maybe we can share one 250ft spool?

I think I'm going to try some magnet wire speakers :D .  Anyone have a good source for 1/4" thin copper spades, preferably unplated.  Going to try my own DIY version for family and friends using the 12 AWG magnet cable.

Timely subject,
I'm working on 4c 14g romex with some pure copper spades that I am making myself (my jeweler experience helps me again). I havent finished yet but I will let you all know how they turn out. NB, if you want me to mail you out some spades I will if you are not in a rush. Otherwise look up vampire.
