Hi I recently acquired a 4B ST and when compared to my 9B St it sounds a bit "thin", so I opened her up and saw that the bias pot was set at "1.5", I think 12mV by Bryston factory default. My intention was to widen the Class A operations to about 5-6V. So I adjusted it to about 2.7 on the dial and turned the amp on. It sounded AMAZING but got so hot almost burned my hand while touching it. I dialed it back to about 2.1 ish.
I wonder for those who have played with 4B St bias setting, which mV and "setting" have you had experienced with and how do you manage the balance between performance/heat/reliability?
