EXtreme Hurricanes driving Daedalus DA-1s
« on: 13 Apr 2005, 11:21 pm »
Greetings all. Below is a picture of a pair of EXtreme Hurricanes (EH KT88s) driving the Daedalus DA-1 speakers. The front end of this system is a Custom Jolida JD100 player with 4 pieces VH Audio V-Cap Oilers and 2 pieces V-Cap Teflon capacitors in the output stage going into a full Reference Ming-Da MC-3 preamp.

The dynamic capability of this system is truly jaw dropping. I prefer the triode mode (120 watts per side) but the full 200 watts pentode operation is truly amazing with these speakers.

This summmer I will be building a pair of complete customized EXtreme Monsoons to serve as the driving force behind these speakers.

EXtremes gone...enter Musica Bella 300Bs

Well, unfortunately I had to send the latest pair of EXtremes to their rightful new owner. They will be missed.
I have recently been driving the Daedalus with an early raw prototype pair of my new Musica Bella MB300B.8 mono blocs delivering 8 watts per channel with a single 300B. Giving the fact that I have decided to use a solid state power supply with a LOT of filtering capacity, these 8 watt units were able to deliver much more dynamic control than would normally be expected from an 8 watt SET amplifier. "Almost" as much dynamics as my personal 40 watt modified 805 amp.
In the forthcoming days, I will hook up a pair of the MB300B.25 amps to see how 25 watts of push-pull 300B power does with these 96dB speakers. Should be interesting.
