So when you said "dont worry its a non commercial thing - he made two only," you are referring to yourself?

I mean, seriously, are you dense, or just unable to communicate? Did you purchase a kit for your own use? Are you aware that Hugh makes his living by selling kits? Do you understand that the money that is paid for a kit covers a lot more than just the cost of the parts?

John, listen to this guy, do you really think he could build anything?  I think it's a 13 year old kid who is bluffing everyone.  He got me going at first but it's a waste of time.  This guy is a total scam.

Best tweeter I heard,,,or rather I liked the best was the Scan Speak 2904/6000-01....It kicks the XT25 in the nads,,,mainly because its awesome as a tweet but its almost a midrange....
XT25 doesnt like to be crossed below 3KHz it seems....regardless of its low Fs...I dont think it has the surface area needed.

There is "no such thing as the best in almost anythimg in audio"period.

How do you explain Watts Inverted Domes produced by Focal? They must really suck ,huh!

It is all how something is implemented that will make one component or another shine in audio.

Good luck with the hunt!

The most exotic tweeters might not produce the results one is after.  Some of the simplest tweeters seem to do a great job.

I was on that metal driver kick for a while.  But then, it was appearent that the implementation of the MIDRANGE with said tweeter is just as crucial as a tweeter itself.

IMO, the Wilson products utilize the Focal tweeter better than JMlabs do because the Wilson midrange is better.  At least it sounds faster/more detailed/better integrated to me anyway...

The Vandersteens use scan speak, and Vifa aluminum in thier glorius model 5.  IIRC VonSweikert did/does also.  Not an expensive tweeter, but a killer implementation.

Sonus Faber does dynaudio and silk tweeters well.

The ATC's I bought seem to use a simple [looks like a modded vifa]  1"  soft dome tweet.  They make their own mid range.  They blend togeather so well, the mids are free of colour, transparent, and very detailed with extended treble...and no metallic edge.

The ATC intruiged me, because like other well-done designs, they produce outstanding results without resorting to $695 or $2500 tweeters.

Recently though, HIFI News proclaimed the JM labs micro utopia BE [Beryllium tweet]  possibly the best compact two way ever.

Bold claim, I will believe it when I hear it.  Because the Be series seems to use the same mid as the Utopia did before.  I am skeptical that a tweeter alone would place it on equal footing to the Wilson watt.

Why continue this thread? I died 2 mo. ago. Never really got anywhere in the first place.

"-Sonus Faber does dynaudio and silk tweeters well."

I just heard the Faber Cremonas and though they were shockingly rolled off on the highs. Top Krell stereo (not HT) front end and great sounding room (meaning causing little damage).

It uses all Sac-Speak Revelators and a version of the Vifa Ring Rad. It's got a brass phase plug instead of whatever the black one is on the regual Vifa.
I'm guessing they really must TRY to color their sound to seem so rolled off.

Wasn't too impressed for $7K speakers.

Well.. one person's opinion from that mag. I'm sure it's a great speaker though in it's own way.
That tweeter did seem like a pretty big and interesting step from their Titanuim ones they've made for so many years.

"-I am skeptical that a tweeter alone would place it on equal footing to the Wilson watt."

I'll just be your opinion.

And the Magnet system is diff. on the W cone drivers. Power Flower they call it. Pretty crazy and cool looking. Don't know it that relates to it's sound, but.. probably does. Doubt a renound company like Focal would go backwards in the quality of their top drivers.

I'm guessing they real ...

I have the same opinion of the SF.  I had been auditioning a number of speakers to replace my aged KEF 103.2's.  I listened to the Cremona Auditor, The EAII, and others.  The SF were never as neutral, dynamic or revealing as ATC.  I purchased the ATC SCM-12 because I felt they did many things better, and for far less money to boot.
