Here's a photo of my stock Bugle that's awaiting a better power supply.  Jim gave me the good guidance on using a three-pin plug/receptacle.  The box is a little narrow and the board fits diagonally, but it works and sounds great.

That's a nice box!  Where'd ya' get it?

Is it a stock Bugle?  any upgrades?  How's it sound?

When you get the PS, will you A/B compare the batteries vs. PS?

Thanks!

The box was from Digi-Key for about $18 and it's made by Hammond:  http://www.hammondmfg.com/1455.htm

I like the version 1 with the metal end pieces.  This box is designed to have a board slid horizontally from one end into it's side slots.  The circuit board being a hair too wide necessitated it's diagonal orientation (it's easy to reduce the length of the board, but the width is another matter).  If I were doing it again, I'd investigate a wider box.

I plan on assembling the companion PS that Hagerman makes and I'll probably do a little critical comparison.  I listen through Ed's Horns and they tend to be very revealing, so maybe it will be noticeable to me.  In any case, I know changing batteries will become annoying and the change should be a positive one if noise isn't introduced.

This is a stock unit (until you guys tell me what works best).  As for the sound of this one:  it's quiet and clean even though I don't have the TT ground hooked up yet.  I immediately noticed a more robust  and focused sound, especially nice clean bass.  I have only listened 1 hour, but it was evident that it's good.  I was using the phono section of a 15 yr old Cambridge Audio preamp prior to building this, so I didn't have a lofty benchmark from which to judge.  Also, my analoge and equipment is modest (VPI HW19 Jr, Sumiko arm and Adcom crosscoil cart).  This little preamp seems to fit my equipment well (simple, inexpensive and fun as hell)

More black boxes for show and tell.  I finally got around to getting an image of the bugle power supply (the middle box on the pyramid).  The phono stage is silent and sounds impressive.  Unbelievable buy and fun to decide how to enclose.  Jim is the man. :notworthy:

All these are Hammond boxes.  The larger one on the bottom is a battery-powered tripath evaluation board.  I wonder where that idea came from?

Hi Ohenry,

Thanks for the information.  I really do have to order the power supply for my bugle as i keep forgetting to turn the battery power supply off.

The boxes look great.
