Boy makes Sister Cry!

MEMO: To All Bryston Customers
SUBJECT: Bryston B-60 Integrated – Customer Response

March 2021

Mike, as you know i recently purchased a used B-60 integrated amp. and I'm glad I did. the sound is just awesome - it is simply a small sized pleasure!

However, two days ago my sister asked me to visit her and her husband. she was never really crazy about hifi things but her husband really is. He just sold his pre/power Yamaha combo. down in their basement he installed a simple system (cheapo Pioneer DVD, Sony Receiver - both pieces 12-15 years old). He told me that he wasn't happy with the sound and he was missing something since he sold the Yamahas. So i took the B60 with me...
He was surprised that a small unit like the B60 can be such a heavy weight.  He liked the overall looks.

Then we went down to the basement to have some fun, beer and music. we swapped out the Sony Receiver and played some cd's through the Pioneer DVD player (analog rca outs) … first and mostly Rock music. He instantly realized how clean and punchy the B60 plays given its size. then my sister asked me to play some cd's from Sade. no problem! I hit the play button and there it was: this unique voice. no doubt...Sade was in the house!

After a few songs i turned around to my sister and I could see tears running from her eyes. i asked her what happened and she said that this is the first time for her that she heard Sade's voice that way. she was deeply impressed. any Sade song played now through the B60 touched her more than she ever expected.

We spent the whole night doing just one thing: listening to our favourite songs! Great evening!!!

I would say this is a good example of the ''I am there'' feeling when you listening to music.

Wow! what an experience!!

And it's all your fault, Bryston. Thank you

Alex

I grew up listening to bands like the Doors, the Beatles, the Who, etc. on a crappy little all in one turntable with detachable speakers and my transistor radio. We're talking about the late 60s-very early 70s. I'm biased in believing that there was something very special about the music of that era.

Recently I was listening to Riders on the Storm from the LA Woman album remastered in high res on my quite nice system (sorry, no Bryston in it) and was stunned by the depth and clarity not only of the music but of Morrison's voice. Infinitely better than how it sounded on that scratchy record all those years ago when I fell in love with the music. It occurred to me that when we hear the remastered sound on a high end system, it's how the band sounded in the studio when they recorded the music and this is how it was meant to be heard, in all of its power and glory. This is the main reason that I became something of an audiophool - I can now listen to those great bands of 50 years ago and hear how they really sounded.

...thanks for posting this, James!

the amp is around 5 or 6 years old and so i guess that i got one of the last units produced (with all the latest upgrades) ?! it also has the MM phono board inside which is another feature that makes my B60 a no brainer! at home i'm using Axiom's M80  speakers and the soundstage is just smooooth!! the B60 certainly can't be compared with a 4B but it's almost frightening what kind of powerful bass it puts out... :D what a bang for the buck!

to make a long story short: best buy ever!

i am very happy and i have never been happier than this evening to see my sister cry... :thumb:
