Hey everyone-

I'm in San Francisco (Noe Valley) and am upgrading my home audio; hoping to confer with others on their choices and experiences.

I recently ordered a pair of Salk Song3 BeATs, and am looking at upgrading the rest of my audio system, currently as follows:

Integrated Amp (with DAC)
: Harman Kardon 3490
CD player: Marantz CD5001
Speakers: Salk Song3 BeATs (formerly Boston Acoustic CR7s)

Mostly listening to small-ensemble acoustic jazz on CDs and streamed hi-res audio. I have a background in electrical engineering, so the technical side of audio is interesting, but my main motivation is enjoying the music.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.

Welcome! Talk to Tim at "Tone of Music" on 24th and Castro in your hood. He could offer some ideas about electronics.

Welcome!

What's your room like?  (The most neglected 'component' of an in-room system and the the one I'd rank 2nd in importance behind loudspeakers.)

Hopefully not small/squarish or with lots of extremely hard surfaces (masonry/glass).  Hopefully well insulated and dedicated to listening.

Another neglected aspect to in-room listening is inherent bass peaks/dips which can be as much as 30 dB.  The primary solution is the use of carefully placed multiple subwoofers.  Look up "swarm" at AudioKinesis.com for more information.
