For sale is a one-of-a-kind pair of Hawthorne Audio OBsession Reference Monitors in good condition (7/10). Here’s a chance to grab one of the last speakers Hawthorne Audio made.
These gorgeous copper leaf speakers are an open baffle monitor which is very rare. They are crowned with the incomparable Beyma TPL-150 AMT tweeter which are $339 each. You’ll definitely need a good sub or two with these speakers. The dimensions are approximately 20" tall x 10.5" wide x 11" deep with a sensitivity in the mid 90's and an 8ohm nominal impedance. A simple second order crossover is used that includes Sonicaps.
These speakers employ a variable L-Pad that allows for adjusting the highs to the listener’s preference. Beyma manufactures the 5" drivers. Tube connectors are employed instead of banana plugs. The rear speaker grilles aren’t removable.
What sets the OBsession apart is their unbelievable sense of clarity. These speakers are super clean, crystal clear, and extraordinarily precise with haunting imaging. They capture the music with an incredible sense of realism. Additionally, the dynamics are on a completely different level. The transients alone are worth the price of admission. That tweeter is delicious!
There are two minor aesthetic issues -- one of the woofers is dented in the center. It doesn't affect the sound and hard to see unless close up. There's also a very small nick on the side of one of the speakers that can be easily fixed with a black Sharpie.
Also note that you will definitely need a sub or two that can play up to 150 Hz or higher in order to mate well with these speakers. I used GR Research OB servo subs for this purpose.
