4BSST2 doesn't always power up
« on: 29 Dec 2020, 12:06 am »
I have a 4BSST2 remotely located from my ARC preamplifier. It uses the the external trigger for power up and has been flawless until now. In the last 6 weeks, it would not turn on on about 4 occasions. When I look at the amplifier, there are no LED's lit on the front faceplate, but each time I can see down through the top vents a flashing red LED. -Please note, the flashing LED is not the LED's on the faceplate- If I switch the power switch on the front off and on the flashing red LED continues to flash. If I unplug the amplifier and plug it back in, it immediately turns on, responding to the signal from the preamplifier and the flashing red LED is no longer present. I called Bryston USA technical support and got a strange possible "diagnosis". I was told that maybe the outlet or power cord was interrupting power to the amplifier. This doesn't make sense to me since I can power down and back up, simulating a power interruption and the unit fires right up, no flashing red LED. Has anyone with this amplifier encountered a similar situation? Being an intermittent issue, I don't want to send it in only to have it work okay on the bench. Talking to the tech support in USA didn't instill great confidence, but perhaps he is just a phone guy and not true tech support.

Hi Falcon

If you do not use the trigger and plug it into the wall does it work?

Good question. Maybe I'll try without the external trigger, just using the front power switch to see if the issue occurs again. A little time consuming because the issue is pretty infrequent, but knowing if it is just related to the external trigger would be good information.
Thanks for Mike's email address. I'll send him an email as well.
