X-MTM Encore flat packs?
« on: 24 Mar 2021, 04:25 pm »
Are the new flat packs on GR's site from CaptainHemo? Regardless, is there any chance an X-MTM flat pack will be offered?

Aside from the NX kits, all the other Flatpacks are from Killian Smith.
I believe he has done a flatpack for the X-MTM in the past, but it was before he got his CNC.

But you should be able to email him here to ask about it:

Hey  folks
I deleted  my post above    as after I  re-read it,  I wasn't happy  with the way  I  came across, not the  way   Don and I like to do business,  we'll let   our reputation   speak for itself.

I will say this,  you  may find cheaper   flat packs out there but  I'll guarantee ( and many know what  our  guarantee stands for) that  you WILL NOT   get  the same quality,  personalization,  and   attention to detail   that  you  do with  our  kits.... not to maention all the   support we provide on not only the kits  we've been partnering on with  GR Research but  also on the  variety  of  questions  I get asked ona daily basis  with regards to   various GR  Research   products

Thanks to all of you  who have  reached out in the past  few weeks, we appreciate  your   support

Do you have a website?

Yeah, a website could prove very beneficial - product offerings, pics, pricing, links to videos and AC build threads, finishing advice, custom options, etc.

My apologies if I said something to upset you, Jay.

I do agree that the quality of your products are top notch, from the quality of the MDF to the packaging I cant imagine it getting much better..

That's not to cut down Killian's work either. It's not to quite the same standard, but it's still a very good quality product, and having used both of your products, I'm very happy with the results on both ends thus far.

I have the dual sub flatpack from Jay.  Great quality, great youtube video instruction provided and Jay was great to work with.  Highly recommended.

Jay also makes modular OB H-Frame cabinets.  Makes upgrading easy.

Got a new pair of H-Frame modules coming to go from two 2x12 to 3x12's with a simple pull apart and place the new module between them.   Also makes them a lot easier to move around.  Lots of dowels to stabilize the modules when together.

I would like to comment here regarding Jay's cabinet designs. I have his triple woofer enclosures and I am VERY happy with them, they were easy to assemble, look great and their performance is superior. Doing business with Jay has always been a pleasure, I am planning on purchasing more of his products for friends. I have not physically seen one of the "new" flat packs or built one, etc. The pictures I have seen do not show the build quality that Jay puts into his products. Jay is the real deal here, the original and I can't say enough concerning his designs. Of course anyone can purchase whatever they want, I purchased a superior design from someone who provides excellent customer support and I have not had any regrets.

I had occasion to be out at GR Research the other day and met Killian Smith. Danny badly needed help at his Business and Killian having an interest in both music and recording was a natural fit. Denton to Iowa Park as a commute shows quite a bit of commitment I must say. Hope that this clarifies some things for all as I know that Danny thinks highly of Jays skills and Products.

I really didn't mean to start a umm...heated discussion about whose flat packs are better.

I'm just wondering if anyone offers flat packs (preferably CNC cut) for the X-MTM Encore. Maybe I should've used a different thread title.

I feel like I unintentionally set off the discussion, but I also didn't see Jays original comment until after they already deleted it..

That said, I feel confident in both the quality of either of their products. And I'm certain that both can produce a quality flatpack for the X-MTM. :thumb:

You can email both of them and see what they have to offer.

Let me clear up a few things.

Jay and Don partnered with me on the NX Series models. We worked together on those designs and they are only available through Jay and Don.

Every other kit that we offer can be built by anyone. By that I mean that the plans have been up on the website from the beginning. And there have been half a dozen or so sources for many of those over the years. And some have received my high recommendations.

Mike Lundy has been knocking out finished models with beautiful cabinet work and full assembly. His work is top notch, highly recommended, and he stays booked up on orders.

Peter decided to cut X-LS Encore flat packs and that model only. He has the best price on them. They are excellently made and packaged, and also highly recommended.

Jay and Don have also been cutting flat packs for the open baffle servo subs. Their work is excellent and highly recommended. And those things are fairly heavy and get a little costly to ship. So if you are in Canada or the North East these are your go to guys.

Killian has been working for me for about nine months or more now. Seeing a hole in the market for flat packs, for our other models that no one is really making, gave him an opportunity to fill that void and purchase a new CNC machine. He has been figuring it out quickly and doing a good job. He will soon have flat packs available for all X Series models and subwoofers.

There is a little overlap as Killian has just starting doing some open baffle flat packs as well. He has made one triple for a local guy and I think he is working on a double for another local guy. If you are local to the DFW area then he might be your guy.

And there is plenty of room for all of these guys at the moment, and their services and products have been very much appreciated.
