That rumor has been out there for many many months on forums like audioasylum. It first hit the streets when Sony, the first to push SACD into the market, started their planned pullback of loaned DSD machines. They invested heavily in leasing out DSD recording equipment to the indies until they were self sufficient. In the past months Sony has been pulling this expensive asset back into its clutches, thereby seeemingly sending a message tht they are pulling back on SACD. That data point alone should not scare you. The optimist says Sony is seeing the patient as getting along ok without life support, and is removing the expensive equipment. However, it's the other signs that concern me. The lack of SACD or hirez content info for Blue-Ray and HDVD, the relatively slow flow of any new software announcements (yes new RCA Living Stereo, etc are great, but are now old news), the lack of high end SACD payers on the horizon.
I'm buying all I reasonably can (of both formats) and hoping that something will survive for the long run. If not, I have the software before it goes OOP.
