Bugle parts substitution
« on: 4 Mar 2005, 08:28 pm »
I had to make a couple of concessions when I ordered the resistors
for the Bugle.

The main issue is Digikey has order points of 5 and 200 for the 1k and 13k
resistor. I did not want to buy 200 each of these.

So, I went to Mouser instead. I found all of the resistors I needed in the
Vishay/Dale line. The specs. are the same, 1/4WATT 1%, except they state "Rated to 1/2WATT." Also, the 1.43K resistor was only available in the Vishay/Dale military line. The specs. are the same. except in this case no "Rated to 1/2W" is not stated. Any issues with this?

I also bought all of the same resistors from Mouser in the Xicon line
(10ea minimum). However, the closet I could find to 1K was 1.02K. I am
guessing that this is O.K.

Also, the 8.45k Xicon is backordered. Can I substitute the Vishay 8.45K in
the circuit with Xicon stuff?

I am substituting 604ohms for 1.3kohms in R3, R5, R21, AND R23. According
to the on-line calculator this will yeild between 52db and 53db. My target
was 50db.

DigiKey sells in increments of 5.  So you can order 10, 15, 20, etc.  That's why the parts list in the manual may call out quantity ten when only six are needed.

jh :)
