Since the 1997 founding of the Americas chapter of the Court of Master Sommeliers only 155 people have achieved the top honor of Master Sommelier. The documentary 'Somm' follows four wine stewards as they prepare to take the Master Sommelier Exam, one of the world's most-difficult tests.
Somm is an interesting look at four very dedicated men that invest 100% of their lives for years to become the best of the best, the amount of effort involved is unbelievable. There is an estimated total of 7,000 to 10,000 grape varieties worldwide and a Master Sommelier has to know them all. One part of the test involves tasting 6 glasses of wine and identify the region, flavor profile, type of wine, vineyard, and the year the wine being tasted was bottled. All during a blind test.
I want to watch Somm 2 and Somm 3, preferably while drinking cheap wine.
