Unhinged - Russell Crowe unleashed

First off 'Unhinged' is not a date movie unless you are dating Aileen Wuornos. A very large Russell Crowe dives deep into his psyche and comes up with one of the meanest, unrelenting and vengeful characters in film history.

Rachel, played by Caren Pistorius, is a harried single mother who is always late. While driving her son to school Rachel honks too long at a black pickup truck driven by Russell Crowe, which he does not take kindly too. Rachel says she is having a bad day and 'the man' tells her he will show her what a really bad day looks like. Mayhem follows.

Unhinged starts with a film montage of misery with current images of traffic jams, car crashes, rioting and random violence. What follows is even worse. Made with a slasher B-movie sensibility, Unhinged would be the second movie at a drive-in double feature. The action is relentless with bumper-to-bumper chase scenes. Crowe scowls so much as he drives that you think he would eat the steering wheel, he is ferocious and unstoppable.

Unhinged is not a great movie or a feel good movie but, like a car crash, I couldn't stop watching from one nail biting scene to another. I admire Russell for deciding to play such a dark nonredeemable character.

The production design, editing and sound is top notch.

Watch the Russell Crowe interview to find out why he made the film and his thoughts on playing the "the man".

The trailer almost plays like a comedy, don't be fooled, this is intense bloody horror.
