Can someone explain to me how they work?   I'm interested in trying out a parametric EQ I can use for my mains and sub.  They have a bunch of models, and I'm a little confused which is right for me.  They all seem to have balanced in and outs, but I don't see any RCAs.  Where in the chain are they used?  I don't really know much about this subject.  I was just looking for something to smooth out the frequencies a bit.

In the instruction manual they say how to make ballanced to rca connectors. A couple bucks from radioshack and a little solder, pretty easy.
I use the DEQ2496 in my main system between a transport and a DAC, digital in and out.  I might get the DSP1124P for my bedroom system RCA in/out just on the sub. This one doesn't have dig in/out so it goes analog in--AD--EQ--DA--analog out. OK for sub but not the best for your mains.
Theres more, but these are the ones I've been interested in. Maybe the DEC2496 for active biamping if the analog only outs can be modded to digital.
Good luck

Pugs,

If you want to give it a try and not spend much money the DSP1124P would probably be the best bet.  This one has 12 parametric EQ filters per channel.  It's a bit tedious to setup but it does the job.  Ideally, you'd want to locate it in the tape monitor loop of your preamp so the signal levels are fairly high inside the unit.  I wouldn't locate it between preamp and poweramp.
Connections are no problem.  You can use XLR/RCA adaptors or 1/4"/RCA adaptors.
