SOLD

Asking $495 or best offer

“If your budget for an audiophile-grade loudspeaker is in the $3,000 to $5,000 price range you simply must put the OML-2 on your short list. You can save yourself some dough and have money to stock up on some of MoFi’s great catalog of music. Cheers!”

The comment above is the last sentence in Dave Thomas’ Stereo Times review of the Mobile Fidelity Original Master Loudspeaker-2 (OML-2). He also called the OML-2 “shockingly good”.

I was in the market and looking at speakers such as Tyler Acoustics and the Salk Song3 around the time (2007). That’s when I stumbled across the Stereo Times review … which led me to discover equally impressive reviews from Soundstage Network and Positive Feedback.
[Just Google keywords “OML-2 Speakers”].

"Within its elegant shell the OML-2 houses two 6 1/2" poly-cone midrange/woofers, one running full-range and the other acting as a dedicated woofer. The 1 1/4" tweeter has a silk dome." "Frequency response is claimed as 35Hz-22kHz, +/- 3dB. Sensitivity is given as 86dB, with an impedance of 6 ohms."

“Mobile Fidelity’s OML-2 is worth the hazards that come with buying sight-unseen. It’s drop-dead gorgeous, with gut-busting bass, a delicate, expressive midrange, and a grain-free -- if somewhat elevated – treble.” Jason Thorpe – Soundstage Network

The OML-2s were designed to serve as monitors for MoFi’s recording studio. These speakers sound good … top to bottom. They have really nice treble, and produce timbre that is spot on. They brought Bill Evans right into my family room on occasion. I don’t quite agree with the “full range” assessment given by some reviewers. At 35Hz, they go down decently enough; but IMHO they need a good subwoofer to really bring out the bass lines. For that duty, I recommend Rythmik or Hsu Research. I’ve owned both and either pairs well with these monitors.

I am moving on to a high-efficiency speaker to be used with low powered S.E.T. tube amplifier. The OML-2s require some juice to get the most out of them.

Mobile Fidelity (MoFi) stopped making the OML line more than 10 years ago. They are very rare these days. A new pair in-the-box is selling right now on EBay for about $3,400.

These speakers have been well cared for in a smoke-free, pet-free environment since being purchased brand new from Music Direct. They will be shipped double-boxed using all original packing materials and inserts. Owner’s manual, plinth hardware, and accessories will be shipped separately. In addition, OMLs come with removable grills and soft velour speaker covers (see photos).

BONUS: Monitors will ship with a FREE pair of 8-ft Anti-Cables speaker wire plus jumpers. That's a $250+ value at today’s retail cost. An 8-piece set of spike pucks to protect your floors and decouple speakers are included as well.

Shipping boxes are fairly large … 45 x 15 x 26 inches (L x W x H); and the shipping weight is 76 lbs. EACH for two (2) boxes. Total weight = 152 lbs. Buyer to pay actual shipping cost from zip code 94537 to your location, including $500 insurance.

Asking price is $495 plus actual UPS ground shipping cost or best offer. NOTE: I am advertising these speakers on multiple sites, and they will go to first buyer to submit payment through PayPal (no additional transaction fee).

DISCLOSURES: You’ll have to supply your own “star wrench” or Torx Bits tool for installing the plinths ($7.29 on Amazon). I couldn’t locate the original tool that came with the set. Also, one of eight plinth bolts is missing. Water seeped into my garage and stained both outer shipping boxes on two sides (see photo). However, both inner boxes are intact.

Please check my 100% positive feedback on EBay and Audiogon – same username “Strateahed” – and buy with confidence. Thanks for looking and Happy Listening!
