Hey folks - long time audiophile checking in here for the first time! Like many others, my journey has taken me from many of the modern hi-fi audio suspects - some great, some less so - to vintage Altec Lansing designs. I tend to lean toward the higher powered modern SET designs for power, but at the moment I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of a restored Mcintosh MC225 to drive a pair of Altec Model 19s I recently finished restoring.
I'd love to hear thoughts or opinions from anyone on the case for using modern tube preamps vs. vintage Mac pres (i.e., MX-110z) to drive the mc225.
I'm also in the middle of a Lenco L75/PTP build, using an SME 3012/II. Love to hear experience from anyone who has rebuild or rewired one of these tonearms.
I currently also run a pair of Altec Model 18 speakers, based on the 604-8g coaxial driver. Amplifier for that system is the 300b-based Allnic A1500.
Feel free to hit me up with questions or unsolicited advice anytime. Happy to be a part of the community!
