Chip amp with X-Statik for the full DIY?
« on: 26 May 2020, 08:34 pm »
Hey everyone, I just ordered the X-statik kit and got intrigued by a reference to a chip amp in one of the GR videos and thought that may be a fun way to lean into the DIY hifi even harder. I'm familiar with cutting edge GaN amps for electronic warfare applications, maybe this is a thread worth pulling. Any thoughts or ideas?

You can pick up a very cheap, lesser quality version on ebay to play with while you build the X Statik and the Folsom amp.  It has the basic sound, just not as refined.  https://www.ebay.com/itm/15W-15W-TDA7297-Digital-Amplifier-Board-Dual-channel-Stereo-AUdio-AMP-Module/133245583621?hash=item1f060e4105:g:~hgAAOSwzwpd1LSF

And it will drive the X Statik as loud as you could want to listen.

The X-Statik speakers are 8 ohms and have 91db sensitivity. -3db down is 48Hz for an average room.

If you add a subwoofer, then with only a chipamp LM3886 by channel must be right, I think. With two LM3886 by channel -without subwoofer- sure.
