Determining a fair price for a pair of RM40s
« on: 17 Apr 2020, 12:28 am »
As part of an estate sale, I have been tasked with selling a pair of VMPS RM40 speakers (and a small boatload of other audio gear.) How does one go about determining a fair price for them?

I have not been able to see them first hand but am told that these have an external box (an external crossover?) attached to each speaker. The deceased owner said they had a bunch of upgrades over the standard issue RM40s.

The back of the speaker have affixed labels with serial numbers but have no indication of what the upgrades might have been.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

For what its worth below pricing is from a 9/2012 price list.

RM40 (FST Tweeter) --- $4,999.00 pr
http://www.vmpsaudio.com/RM40.htm

Standard Finishes = Light Oak Dark Oak = standard no charge
Premium Finishes = MLS Piano Black, Rosewood, Ebony, Light Maple, Birch = $400 pr
Cap Upgrades = Auricaps $650, TRT $1200 pr
SR71 = $580 pr
OXO = $450 pr
D-OXO = $699 pr
SDE upgrade = $995 (D-OXO plus Digilog Bridge)
SUPERMAX Silver Wiring = $700 pr
PBS = $1198 (pair of 1000w amps modded for the woofer system of your speaker

If you can find out what upgrades then you can assess the "original" list price.

There was also a Dorne Dibble Gloss Black Cabinet which I think we charged $350 to upgrade to.
