Bryston BDP-1 & exFAT
« on: 27 Mar 2018, 08:59 pm »
Will the BDP-1 read external drives formatted in exFAT if the latest firmware is installed? My BDP-1 has an old version of firmware (? late 2012) and will not recognize an external drive I recently reformatted in exFAT but will read one that is FAT32.

I forgot to add that the external drives are 240GB SSD's.

Won't FAT32 work with 240 SSD ?

Use an mbr partition. (works for me, with BDP-1 and -2)

Any version of the Manic Moose (S2.XX) will read exfat, otherwise you'll either need to format the drive fat32 or ntfs OR update to manic moose.

1. FAT32 does work with the 240GB SSD but I do have some 4TB HDD for which I think exFAT is supposed to be better. I want all formats to be uniform. Also, I either have to find a MAC to format FAT32 or go to an outside application which I do not like to do. Windows does have NTSF as well as exFAT formatting options.
2. It is time for me to update firmware because MPad no longer works and I am sure MPod is short lived.

What is the most but well tested and stable Manic Moose version? I do not need the latest & greatest - just stability, ease, simplicity.

I would say that’s the most recent stable release.  The testing/development versions require users to go out of there way to install.  Generally the testing/development builds tend to key be buggy relative to there new features.

Hi Chris
My BDP-1 is running the latest S2.42 2020-04-15 (FAT32 works and its plays DSD thru the BDA3) but it still would not read ex-fat USB pen drives. Tried formatting using a Mac and WIN10. The usb drive is still not recognised even after a re-boot. Any ideas? Thanks.
