The D-100's are very neutral with excellent spacial qualities, detail and dynamics. Unlike VMB-1's, they can drive difficult loads and inefficient speaker systems to high volume levels.
VMB-1's are great for smaller systems with reasonably efficient loudspeakers and loads that don't dip much below 4 ohms. They have a slightly laid-back character and sound like you're sitting a few rows back when compared to D-100's...this is sometimes preferred for smaller rooms or near field listening.
