I have trouble with the Grammy's.  Attempts to watch it remind me of conditioning in Clockwork Orange.  I did flip to it twice.  The first time, U2 was being awarded best rock song for Vertigo.  The second time, Maroon5 was singing along with 52 other people on stage.  The dry heaving wouldn't stop.  Hopefully the remainder of the show had less bodily impact.

In looking at the 4352 award winners this morning, I was glad to see that Wilco was an award winner....at least in light of the alternatives they could have chosen.

The dry heaving returned this morning seeing that Maroon5 was best new artist.  I'm still waiting for Nickelodeon to sponsor this band.

The Garden State soundtrack which won "Best Compilation Soundtrack Album For A Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media" is a good list of songs, but it still amazes me that there is a professional award for best mixtape.

I haven't been keeping up with things enough to realize that Frisell had put out another album, but saw him as an award winner for best contemporary jazz album.

Curious to hear Night Train to Nashville.

Genius Loves Company - To be expected.

I suppose it's neat to see a band/artist you admire win a Grammy, but bear in mind that Britney Spears also won a Grammy! :o   How much can any award mean if  Britney can get one?!   If I was Wilco that would almost make me want to give mine back.

Good job Wilco!

I just picked up their "Summerteeth" CD a few days ago.  Sound-q is poor, but lyrically there are about 4 really good songs (I'm very picky)

As for the Garden State soundtrack...  I owe it much.  It introduced me to "The Postal Service" and "Iron and Wine", both of which are amazing bands.  I dont necessarially agree that it deserves a grammy, but some recognition is due.

Best Dance Recording (For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances. Vocal or Instrumental. Singles or tracks only.)

Toxic / Britney Spears / Avant & Bloodshy, producers; Niklas Flyckt, mixer
Track from: In The Zone / [Jive/Zomba Label Group]

I wouldn't disagree with this award if 'best dance recording' happened to be video and not audio, and you voted with the volume turned off.  Its hard to tell when you are passively watch her videos, but if you look closely, you can easily tell that she wants me.

Hmmm...What about Muse?  I thought that Muse's CD was better than Wilco's.  I also think that Wilco's Hotel Yankee Foxtrot is better than A Ghost is Born (there's one song I've yet to actually finish listening to on A Ghost is Born).  Oops -- I guess Absolution (by Muse) was released last year.

Also, while I like Genious Loves Company by Ray Charles, I find it uneven.  Some songs are great, and others are just so-so.  As far as creativity and music are concerned, I'd choose Brian Wilson's Smile over Genious Loves Company.

Bob,
I agree 100% that Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is much better than AGIB, but Grammy awards are historically ironic this way.  I mean really, Ray Charles wins 8 Grammy's for a MOR album, and it's frickin after he's passed away!   Brian Wilson, the creator and lead innovator of ten-part vocal harmonies, wins his first Grammy....for an instrumental!  How much more ironic can you get?

That is one of the reason that had turned me off from watching this show in the past few years. Too much rap music and commercial.

BTW, who is that singer that sang Janice Jopline's "Piece of my heart"? She did an excellent job and sound very much like Janice.

That was a bald Melissa Ethridge.  YIKES!  A bald man hating lesbian!  My wife was wondering if she has cancer or something or is supporting someone who does?!?

Woops, thanks Lonewolf - beat me to it.  Guess she does have breast cancer.  Didn't seem to affect her amazing voice though!
